Recent 4 Horsemen of the Apocolypse
« on: May 11, 2023, 09:36:43 PM »
Outlined against a blue-gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden. They formed the crest of the South Bend cyclone before which another fighting Army team was swept over the precipice at the Polo Grounds this afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down upon the bewildering panorama spread out upon the green plain below. - Grantland Rice

So they were 4 offensive players - QB, 2 RBs, and a FB.
What are some more recent 4-somes that may earn the moniker today?
.
Immediately coming to mind are 2019 LSU's Burrow, Edwards-Helaire, Jefferson, and Chase.
.
Maybe a brief 94-95 Nebraska quartet of Frazier, Phillips, Green, and Schlesinger/Mackovicka?
.
Maybe one of those WV teams in the mid-2000s?  I'd have to look it up.
Do you guys have any off the top of your head?

Turner Gill, Irving Fryer, Mark Schellen, Mike Rozier

FB Schellen,

Set a Nebraska fullback record with nine touchdowns in 1983
Held Nebraska's all-time bench press record with a best of 475 pounds

Schellen was a key part of the 1983 Husker Offense, scoring 9 touchdowns, which was a Nebraska fullback record at the time.  He gained 450 yards on 77 carries as a senior,

Fun question. Do they all have to be in the backfield?

Not college but maybe QB Troy Aikman, RB Emmitt Smith, TE Jay Novacek, and WR Michael Irvin?.  Or you could maybe sub in RB Darryl Johnston for TE Jay Novacek.  Or maybe they had 5 horsemen..?

Ok, okay.

So then, Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Robert Newhouse, and Drew Pearson.

Yup, that'll do the trick.

Can we have all posts with "Not college, but..." deleted on non-NFL specific threads?  :)

I don't see any reason they all have to be in the backfield, hence the 2019 LSU example.
.
The 08 Gators have Tebow, the midgets (Rainey & Demps) and Harvin.  That's like 3 cheetahs and a sledge hammer.

2007 Arkansas

Darren McFadden
Felix Jones
Peyton Hillis
Marcus Monk

I remembered the loaded backfield for Arkansas and seemed to remember a stud WR but couldn’t remember his name.  When I looked it up I saw Monk only had 16 catches for 144 yards and thought maybe I just remembered him as being better than he was.  But the year before Monk had 50 catches for 962 yards and 11 TDS.

In 07 he only played in 7 games but so I’m assuming he was injured.

I’d have to think in the last several years Ohio St, Bama, and Clemson have had some combinations at QB/RB/WR/WR that would definitely qualify.  Oklahoma as well.
