I suspicious of the indoor digital antennas. I bought what was purported to be a nice one back in San Marcos when OTA switched to digital signal. There were 6 English channels in Austin that I think of as "standard"--ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, CW--and then there were at least a couple Spanish local stations which I didn't pay attention to.
I don't remember which ones didn't work at all, but about half of those came in down in San Marcos somewhat reliably, although any slight movement to the antenna was likely to drop the signal. The others I never could pick up. I think I was able to get 1 or 2 from San Antonio as well, but iirc, it was two of the same stations as I got from Austin, so it was kinda annoying that they weren't different ones.
Thing is, back in 2014 I was visiting a buddy in Austin and we went to Best Buy to pick up another nice digital antenna so we could watch the NFC and AFC championships that day. He lived well within Austin city limits where all the channels should've been easy to catch if that technology were worth a damn. It was still tough going, even at his apartment. We wondered if living in an apartment building on the first floor was a problem, and also the whole complex was kind of in a minor valley area due to the hilly nature of that part of Austin, so that there was plenty of trees and structures blocking a clear airway, so to speak, from signal source to antenna. But it sure seems like you should be able to get all Austin's OTA channels easy-peasy if you're in Austin. The fact that we couldn't just furthered my impression that those digital antennas are crap, or the strength of digital OTA signals are crap, or both. My old school rabbit-ears picked up stations for miles and miles. Maybe not as clear as digital, but far more usable and I didn't have to worry about a speck of dust falling on the antenna or breathing the wrong way and the signal goes out.
We live 25 air miles from the where all our local stations broadcast, and those goofy indoor digital antennas can't pick up shit. It got CBS in a very tough-and-go manner for a bit, but then that stopped. It never did get any of the others.
I think those things are basically a scam.
