I have always had a full streaming service after football season because of Formula 1.  But now F1 has moved to Apple so I have no need to keep it anymore.  I'll now happily kill YTTV after football season.

So I assume you have something in addition to YTTV right now to watch the Texas/Aggie games on ESPN channels?

So far the only UT or A&M game played since the great blackout, was UT-Vandy which was on ABC over the air.  A&M was on a bye week.

This coming weekend UT is on a bye week.  Not sure what the Ags are doing but I'll be volunteering all day for a marching band competition anyway.

Hopefully by the following weekend, it'll be resolved.

A&M/Mizzou, ABC.  I can hook up my antenna I guess.  I need to get some longer wire and connectors but I have the antenna, I'm just not close to Houston (50 miles) so the reception can be iffy.  Digital is weird, it's either crystal clear or almost nothing but blocky Atari looking shit.

Yeah, digital is like that. It has error correction built into the protocol so that if the signal isn't perfect, the picture is still perfect. But the instant you get too many errors to correct, it goes from perfect to shitty real quick.

I'm about 60 miles from the towers in LA, so I simply had to buy a higher quality antenna. Can't use any of the inexpensive indoor antennas where I live.

I used the antenna when I had Sling as it didn't do local channels. But once I mounted the TV above the mantle, and switched to Hulu Live TV (which includes locals)--and the neighbor's tree fell on our house damaging the antenna--I stopped using it.

But your post made me think... I wonder if it would be worthwhile to get Sling again and just get a new antenna for locals. I can buy a USB TV tuner that will go to where my little Linux box is--which is already wired via HDMI to the TV, and which is right next to where the cable can be routed from outdoors. So I don't have to route the cable from the antenna all the way to the TV.

Ever since the first YTTV/Disney scare before the first game of the season, which forced me to drag out my old OTA antenna, I've been using it to watch a lot of OTA sports.  The picture is so much better.

It's old but it's a powered antenna so it works pretty well even in the sticks.

My rabbit ears work pretty well, 15 miles away from the source. Haven't needed them this year.

We're not even that far from the local stations, but the indoor digital antennas are hit-or-miss on the 1 or 2 channels they actually can receive.  Most of the local stations aren't even trying to come through.  But I suspect we're plenty close enough for a good outdoor one.

I can envision me buying and setting up an outdoor antenna, although I know nothing about them or how much labor and DIY-savvy is necessary.

What I can't envision is running cable from an outdoor antenna into the TV.  I pretty well know what that would entail, and it's more than I can/want to do.
