We had, unsurprisingly, a lot of cliques in HS, nerds, jocks, pretty girls, etc., the usual.  I think I relished not being in one, maybe subconsciously.  Of course, I wanted to be in the "cool guy" club, but never was.  They mostly dated the pretty girls, cheerleaders, etc.  Maybe it was a good lesson for me.  The transition to college of course meant everyone was "lost" in effect, in a huge sea.  There were cliques of course called fraternities and sororities.  My cousin, same age as me, pledged.  I went along with him to a pledge party.  The whole scene was foreign to me.  I guess I wouldn't want to join a club that would accept me.  Ha.

At one point, a pretty girl sat next to me and started asking me questions about whether I was interested in pledging other frats, and I said no, I was not interested at all, she got up and left, of course.  College was liberating in that you could redefine yourself, if you wanted.

What can you even do with dialup now ?  Back in the day websites were so much simpler and designed for it. I didn’t get DSL until about 2004-2006. I can’t remember the exact year but we still had dialup then and I noticed that the sites were getting fancier and fancier. This is probably one of the simpler sites I visit on a regular basis, but the rest would probably not load on dialup, at least not on a time that would be acceptable.

So... I need a new TV. I've had my Samsung 4K 65" for almost a decade now. It's got 11 different bright spots on the screen. My understanding from Google is that there are diffusers on the LEDs that over time can fall out as the glue holding them into place fails. Well, it seems I'm there.

Thinking it's time to move up to 75". I'm going to set my budget at $1K, so that pretty much rules out OLED. I play everything through a Roku, so I don't care very much about the smart features, but I also don't want some cheap-ass budget TV that's got terrible underpowered electronics and will be laggy and have a poor UI. Effectively it's only streaming content, but some of that is sports, so I assume refresh rate is important.

I'm a Costco member, so if I can get it there, I probably will...

What do you look for? Any particular brands or models you like? I'm assuming the best bet is to wait for Labor Day sales, especially since it's immediately in advance of the CFB / NFL season?

I buy Samsung, and only Samsung. I have for 20 years. The 75 we have is really nice. The 43 outside is perfect, and then a few smaller ones to set up outside when multiple games are on that I want to see.

You should be able to get a Samsung 75 for $500+/-.

I've had good luck with Samsung in the past as well. It looks like Costco has a Samsung Crystal UHD ($649), QLED ($799), and Neo QLED ($1199).

I'll exclude the Crystal... The Neo does have 120Hz refresh compared to the QLED at 60Hz. I'll have to see if Labor Day sales bring that price point down at all.
