I was told my property tax in Austin with my condo would be 3x what I pay here.  No state income tax though.

If you're only paying $2K per year or something I suppose it's possible.

Man if you're only paying $2K per year in taxes on your nice condo, I'm moving to Atlanta!

You should see property taxes in Louisiana.  Virtually nothing.

There's state income tax, but you'd have to make a heckuva lot for it to get to as much as property taxes here.  There's also grocery tax, too.  I've never tried to calculate what that saves us in TX.

I'm definitely retiring back to LA tho.

The 3% state income tax in Louisiana versus my property tax here in the Austin suburbs comes out as about a wash.  I could of course choose to live in a cheaper location and pay less property tax.  I would never choose to make less money to avoid paying more income tax.

Oh and state income tax in Georgia is apparently 5%.  Yikes.

Property tax of course varies by county, and city, and even microlocale.

The Interwebz claims Austin property tax is 58 cents per hundred valuation.

Atlanta is about $12,000 per million.  So my kid was incorrect.

Yes, and it's flat, I do get a pretty large deduction on retirement income.

FL is very tax friendly. Insurance is expensive.

We pay about half of what we paid for homeowner's insurance than when we first bought, but this house is now a fortress. Not everyone can do that, so most people pay a lot more than us.

Car insurance is really high, but I hear that it's gone up in most places. When we moved from Illinois, it was about double what it was up there.
