The first time I ever had Mexican it as pretty bad, to me (and likely pretty bad anyway). I got sick later that night, so I didn't have "mexican" for a long time. I have a friend who won't eat Indian food because he tried it and didn't like it. Once.
My wife loves some things I don't much care for, foie gras is one, Caviar is another. I can eat them, but for the $$$ I just let her have whatever is there. I bought her a tin of caviar at Whole Food a few days ago, on sale, $20 off, still $60 for a little tin. For me it's just salty nodules, I can pass.
We were at her friends place in Brazil a while back and were have various appetizers, and a friend of her friends kept telling me to TRY THIS! TRY THAT! Do you want some more?
I had tried them, and had said quietly I did not desire any more, and she kept pushing stuff on me to the point I was feeling offended. I kept saying "No Thank You." and she kept pushing.
My wife told me later that is common in France, while where I'm from, it is highly offensive. I finally stood up and moved a few feet to a different chair which my wife told me offended her (the lady). Using the term mildly.
Champagne is another thing my wife LOVES. I can drink it of course, it just doesn't do much for me. I've had the Grande Dame a few times, Crystal, Dom, whatever, it's OK. Folks rave about it I think because after spending $300+ for a bottle of wine they feel a need to.
