Its a bad idea.  A better idea would be to raise the standard.  Or go to a blind admission process where athletes have to meet the same admission standards as normal students with no affirmative action BS.  The NFL can start farm teams for those who don't want a college degree.

While I agree conceptually, on a practical level this would eliminate almost all of the players we root for.

While an interesting idea, it remains idealism without a support base. Colleges running semi-professional sports teams prefer access to better players. There negative value in the NFL getting into the business of guiding hundreds of kids. 

It would be interesting because mid-majors with no brand value would suddenly be throttling the big boys.
