Huh, they very much may have to fire Mel Ticker.

Apparently the version of the story that he told to make himself look better was that he was having phone sex with sexual assault awareness advocate Brenda Tracy. She said she was an unwilling participant in that interaction.

Gross.

Mel Tucker story is just so weird. I think he’s toast, especially if his team plays poorly this season. They’ve given MSU a way to fire with cause. May be just me but it sounds like a setup.

Sweet Caroline is a great song.  It's just terribly over-used.

I didn't really appreciate Neil Diamond when I was younger, but I've grown to really enjoy his music.  Especially some of the older stuff like "Forever in Blue Jeans" and "Kentucky Woman."

There were some rumors during the summer that MSU was conducting an investigation to fire him for cause, and didn't want it to turn into a Kevin Ollie situation.

Guessing this was it.

Now their hand is forced, and they have to suspend him immediately.

The convenience factor sure is interesting.

I’m not sure what to make of the setup idea. Assuming Tracy participated, can’t see a ton of gain there. Then again, I don’t know her life. Seems like I didn’t know Tucker’s either, I suppose.

Not familiar with the ins and outs of Title IX, but apparently this was the problem.  The investigation wrapped in July, and the hearing is October.  With it being public now, maybe he'll voluntarily step aside?  I just hope it wasn't MSU who leaked it, because I imagine that would complicate things

At best, he had an affair with a sexual assault survivor with whom he was supposed to be partnering and supporting. IF Spartan AD had a moral clause in his contract then he is done.

this from the USA Today
“Ms. Tracy’s distortion of our mutually consensual and intimate relationship into allegations of sexual exploitation has really affected me,” Tucker wrote in a March 22 letter to the investigator. “I am not proud of my judgment and I am having difficulty forgiving myself for getting into this situation, but I did not engage in misconduct by any definition.”

that appears to be a confession right there

If that were true we'd be looking at 1987 SMU type death penalty. Coach and University would both be complicit

Supports a cynical view I hold regarding people.  Nothing surprises me about people, they are capable of really anything.  This includes this happening as it is reported or as a total set up.   Think Wilford Brimley in the firm.

I don't care if it's a setup, doing anything like that with a woman in that position is the worst idea possible.  At best, he's wholly stupid.  At worst, he's a repulsive, garbage human being.

I don't see what the big deal is. Keep Mel around for life at MSU. I say give him another 10 year $100 million extension. 20 years, $200 million. Lets make it happen.
