It is interesting that not a single #1 vote is going to an SEC school. The B1G is getting the vast majority (62) with independent Notre Dame picking up 6 and ACC-Miami picking up one.
This is the 1,268th AP Poll to be released dating all the way back to October 19, 1936 when Minnesota was #1 in the very first AP Poll.
This is the 296th straight week that Alabama has appeared in the AP Poll dating back to the 2008 preseason AP Poll. That is by far the longest active streak and is #2 all-time behind only Nebraska's 348 straight appearances from 1981-2002. If the Tide remain ranked continuously until then, they will catch the Cornhuskers early in the 2029 season. Active streaks:
- 296 Bama (2008-2026)
- 149 Georgia (2017-2026)
- 97 Ohio State (2020-2026)*
- 65 Oregon (2022-2026)
- 57 Notre Dame (2022-2026)
- 51 Ole Miss (2023-2026)
- 35 Miami, FL (2024-2026)
- 30 Indiana (2024-2026)# &
- No other teams have been continuously ranked since prior to the preseason poll last year.
* Ohio State's current streak of 97 straight appearances and their streak of 132 straight appearances from 2012-2020 are separated only by the two weeks during the pandemic in 2020 when B1G teams were deemed ineligible due to the B1G pausing sports. Thus, Ohio State has been ranked in 229 straight AP Polls for which they were eligible. That would be the second longest active streak behind only Bama's and the third longest streak of all-time behind only Nebraska and Bama.
# Prior to this, Indiana's longest streak was 11 from 2020-2021. Curt Cignetti: Google him, he wins.
& Indiana's current streak of 30 straight appearances represents nearly a third of Indiana's total appearances since 1936 (97). Curt Cignetti: Google him, he wins.
