Has MCTerps been around lately?
I came to this thread specifically because I was wondering about him.

I had some epic disagreements with him in the Power Rankings threads but he was generally civil and a regular voter.  I remember him because he appeared on whatever board we were on at the time right before anybody knew about the RU/UMD additions and introduced himself and said basically "hey, we are going to be conference mates".  Not sure where he got the info before the rest of us, but I remember I learned it from him (at least I'm pretty sure it was him).

FWIW:  The epic disagreements on the Power Rankings threads usually revolved around MoV and SoS.  He pretty much took the position that ANY win was better than ANY loss.  I get the sentiment but, particularly early in the season, I thought he took it to an absurd point.  When I looked at openers, I always said that if one B1G team went on the road and pushed the #1 team in the country to OT before losing that was pretty good.  Conversely, if another B1G team hosted some weakling FCS team and needed OT to finish them off, that was pretty bad.  He just didn't seem to like that idea.

Everyone trashed his ranking system early in the season when his ranking system would be all over the map. I think it typically coalesced to the "right" result by the end of the season when teams had a full body of work.

It's similar to the problem that basketball had with RPI. RPI was heavily weighted to strength of schedule. So when P5 teams would play RPI 200+ teams early in the season, it artificially lowered their own RPI (because they beating patsies) while artificially enhancing the patsies' RPI (because they were losing to good teams). Then when teams got into the regular season the P5 RPIs would improve because they were playing better competition with the patsies' RPI would drop through the floor as they were playing other patsies.

MCWTerps constantly had to explain what his system was doing and that he fully recognized that it was limited early in the season. Yet everyone kept trashing the results the he himself knew were only based on limited information.

I never understood that...

That is about how I understood it.  Basically his ranking system was a computer system with no preseason assumptions.  Most computer modelers get (at least partially) around that problem by using preseason assumptions that are phased out as the season progresses.

With no preseason assumptions, if PU started a year by barely scraping past some FCS scrub at home while tOSU started the year by losing in OT to Bama in Tuscaloosa his system would say PU>tOSU because PU has a win over an 0-1 team while tOSU has a loss to a 1-0 team.  All of us would look at that and come to the rather obvious conclusion that losing in OT on the road to Bama is probably a WHOLE LOT better than winning in OT at home over some crappy FCS team and say tOSU>PU.  It was weird.

It's weird, sure, in the sense that early season results are going to be all over the map. But he never shied away from that. Everyone complained about his ranking in September but I don't recall much issue in November.

It wasn't for his power rankings...

I think @Drew4UTk could best explain.

I remember he really thought the Conference had it out for them. The one game vs PSU about 3 yrs back,he had a case as there were at least 2 non calls where Nittany O-line tackled rushers with the Zebras looking right at it.Even neutral observers admitted it was cringe worthy

Yeah, I don't recall the issue being quite so much with his power rankings, but with how it always seemed to work out that Maryland was high, then he would criticize every single other poster who didn't have the Terps high enough.

He had a bone to pick with every single one of the voting things we had where Maryland didn't get enough respect, I think for every all-conference vote he was deeply offended that there was no Terp.  Amazing that 3-9 teams didn't churn out an all-conference caliber dude at every position.

And I'm pretty sure Maryland never once lost a basketball game where the refs didn't screw them.

He was banned for misbehavior, and set to attempt "canceling" the site because we're racist and we're white supremicists, and we're right wing terrorists, and everything else popular culture will attack a site for being... he was doing this on Twitter.

If he had a chance for his ban to expire, he lost it cold when he tried that crap.

He is one of four persons that i have banned on this site or the last, and that stretches over a lot of years.  Its unfortunate a person can get banned for behavior on a site and board that rarely if ever moderates.  And technically "I" didn't ban him, but I condoned it and would have had i got to the button first.
