Virginia Tech's James Franklin breaks silence amid massive recruiting overhaul
Virginia Tech's James Franklin breaks silence amid massive recruiting overhaul

James Franklin hauled his former Penn State recruits to Virginia Tech.

Penn State's 2026 recruiting class rank is 154 according to 24/7, just below Murray State and West Georgia.

Penn State can make that up by hiring Matt Campbell when he brings his 3* Iowa State recruits to Happy Valley. :)

How happy are the folks in Happy Valley about firing James Franklin, now?

Problem is the Early Signing period closes today, unless he gets them all to transfer

Penn State's AD should have already been fired.  You don't make that move without having a plan in place

a guy in the UNL AD Tyler Kai said that Jimmy Sexton was blackballing PSU
_________________________________________________ ___________

Jimmy Sexton, the top agent for football coaches at the prestigious CAA company, boasts a slew of top current and former football people on his client list. Among his clientele is former Penn State head coach James Franklin, who the Nittany Lions fired in October and quickly found a new job at Virginia Tech. Penn State, meanwhile, are still looking for a head coach.

For former ESPN college football insider Todd McShay, there’s a growing belief that Sexton has something to do with Penn State’s inability to find their guy even after many schools that fired head coaches a few weeks ago already got their replacement.

Appearing on The Bill Simmons Podcast, McShay suggested that Sexton is “messing around with Penn State” as payback for the school firing Franklin. He mused that Sexton might be diverting his clients away from Penn State and towards other schools.

“He’s messing around with Penn State right now because Penn State let go one of his guys, James Franklin, in a manner that he didn’t appreciate,” McShay said. “And so now they’re kinda sitting back and every time they go try to hire a coach or get serious with the coach, that coach who’s represented by Sexton winds up with an extension or winds up going to maybe UCLA. So it’s, it’s fascinating to see.”

When the "leak" came out that Sark was entertaining NFL offers, my favorite Tweet was that "The Devil works hard, but Jimmy Sexton works harder"

He only got six games after getting within 3 points of a NCG.

Other coaches saw that.

I know, but you can withdraw from your National Letter of Intent (NLI) if there is a coaching change. I suppose that decommitting could still be problematic since recruits are probably also contractually bound by an NIL contract for the coming year.

guy in the UNL Athletic department said not much teeth in the NIL deals.
Kids can just transfer to another program
said a few guys have transferred with 6 credits to go to get their degree - then they have to take 2 years of classes at new school to finish the degree.  They don't care.

If this is true, it would make the people in charge of paying NIL money stupid for having contracts that fail to protect the sports program, and payors, from players that leave. Perhaps the contracts are for only one year, but still, a reasonable liquidated damages provision should be in each contract.

Sources: Penn State in final negotiations with Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell. At long last, Penn State’s coaching search looks to be coming to an end. Sources told Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger that the Nittany Lions are in the final stages of negotiations to hire Iowa State coach Matt Campbell as their new head coach.

UW lost a kid like this to fMiami last year. Signed with UW for $250K, went home for Christmas, and never came back to Madison.

UW got stiffed. fMiami tampered. Kid never even entered the portal.

Nothing happened, except UW getting F'd over.

kinda like coaching buyout clauses that seem unreasonable

if the kid can get an NIL deal w/o the provision from another program, he's not going to sign one that has the provision

:o Well being 18 I'm assuming he should be subject to some kind of prosecution. Did he play for pay THIS season?
