Other P5 CG races after week 9
« on: October 30, 2022, 11:41:49 AM »
ACC:
Clemson has all but clinched a spot in the ACCCG. They will only miss it if all of the following occur:

  • Clemson loses at home to Louisville, and
  • Clemson loses at home to Miami, and
  • Syracuse wins at Pitt, and
  • Syracuse beats FSU, and
  • Syracuse wins at Wake, and
  • Syracuse wins at BC
Clemson is going to the ACCCG and their opponent will almost certainly be UNC. The Tar Heels are up two games in the loss column and already beat the two teams that are within two games of them (Dook and Miami).

B12:
Mathematically it is fairly wide open but as a practical matter it will likely be TCU vs KSU.

P12:
Oregon looks like a safe bet at 5-0 but behind them are the two Los Angeles schools on their farewell tour and Utah with one loss each and two two-loss teams. Even teams beyond that are still mathematically in the race.

SEC:
SEC-E:
As a practical matter this is between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Tennessee Volunteers. Florida and Vanderbilt are mathematically eliminated and the others could theoretically tie the Dawgs and Volunteers but I don't think they'd win the tie even if they did.

SEC-W:
Bama, LSU, and Ole Miss each have one loss. Bama and LSU control their own destiny and play this weekend in Baton Rouge. If Bama wins then Ole Miss will regain control of their destiny and they host Bama next week.

Bottom line:
If Bama sweeps their two game road trip through Baton Rouge and Oxford they clinch. If they get swept they are out. If they split then whichever team beat them has the inside track but all three are probably still in the race.

What's the least likely CCG match up for each conference that's still possible at this point, with so many being mathematically eliminated?
1919, 20, 21, 28, 29, 31, 34, 35, 36, 37, 42, 44

I'm not tackling this.

You could have done that one blind folded, back before you began to repopulate the Earth.

Yeah, I'd have probably done it tonight but instead I'll be dressed as Donald Duck walking around my neighborhood with:
  • Wife Daisy Duck
  • 3.5 year old son Mickey Mouse
  • 2 year old daughter Minnie Mouse
  • 7 month old daughter Pluto

The SEC East is still possible to have a 3 way tie, UK wins out to 5-3, UGA loses out, Tenn beats UGA and loses out to 5-3 (after losing to Vandy).

The West as noted is more clear and about to be resolved one way or t'other.

Obviously this is not a realistic possibility anyway but would it even matter? Tennessee already beat Kentucky and in order to create this three-way tie they would have to beat Georgia so the Volunteers would be 2-0 H2H with UK 1-1 and UGA 0-2.

Yeah, it's a tie, and Tenn would go to the CG.

UK could have a trophy.

UGA would be bummed seriously.

Huey, Louey and Dewie would have been the obvious choice for three kids here.

I didn't think Oregon would go on a run as they have, I never was impressed with Nix, but here they are.

Pac-12 chump conference.  Not many rough waters to navigate there.

The SEC W just got entertaining.  LSU has wins over their two competitors.  They play @ Arky and @ A&M now and would need to lose both to miss the CG UNLESS Ole Miss also beats Bama.  Ole Miss has Bama, @ Arky, and Miss State.  If they both win out, LSU goes.  If Bama beats OM, LSU could be no worse than 5-3 in conference.  Alabama could sneak back into this in theory.  And might.  LSU seems like a team that could have a hangover.

LSU  5-1
Ole Miss 4-1
Bama 4-2 in conference

LSU has wins over both, and the loss is to Tenn from the East.

UGA plays @ Miss State and @ UK which by no means are guaranteed wins on the road, they could do a Missouri.  But one win next week locks it for them.
