gotta be honest, last few years has been so shit for me and my fam there's not been a lot of happy things. small things happen pretty much daily, i guess, and it's not lost on me that's what this thread is for. i won't go into the other stuff since it's not the thread for that, but...

yesterday i had the first big happy moment i've had in a long while. i've been a foster parent for the past 6-7 years, had 40/50-somthing kids come in and out of our home. adopted 1 earlier this year, and that was amazing. they're all good kids, and there's a lot of joy in it, but joy isn't happiness and hot damn is it hard sometimes.

one of our hardest and more recent kids, who is still in care, made us hurt so much. it felt like she hated us, but she was such a promising kid that just needed to be loved and someone to fight through her neglect and rejection and show her that she deserved love, kindness, and care. when she left our house, we were kinda devastated. we knew we'd done our best, but didn't seem to make a difference. seemed we'd failed.

we have watched from afar (we know the people she moved to) and she is thriving. she's opening up, becoming confident, doing well in school, showing kindness she didn't with us. we could not be more happy for her. but it still hurt that it didn't happen with us. but if that's what's best for the kid, i'll take that L so they can have the W.

yesterday, she spoke with my sister (works at her school) and asked if she could come visit for a weekend. that she misses us and wants to see us again. i can't wait.
She might have just been an Auburn fan... or Tennessee...

Seriously, though, you and your will be remembered and honored for generations.  Good on you, sir.
