ON THIS DAY: In 1974 Neil Peart replaced John Rutsey as the drummer for Rush. He revolutionized progressive rock and elevated the drum solo to a theatrical, compositional art form and inspired generations of musicians globally.

Rutsey was a damn good drummer, who didn't like the direction taken by the two founders. Then they found Neil.
