We do not get that day off.

Our holidays are

New Years Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

Plus, one floater.

7 total.

Hmm, we get:

New Year's
MLK
Memorial
Independence
Labor
Thurs and Fri of Thanksgiving
5 days at Christmas

So, 12 total.

Speaking of which, I need to put in my PTO request for a couple of weeks from now. Wife and I are taking a Friday for a 3-day weekend to head down to Temecula, do some wine tasting, and just sorta unwind from recent stress.

Which makes me happy.

That's like a Government job, minus President's Day, Columbus Day and Veteran's Day.

We used to get President's Day.  After all the BLM stuff, they switched it to MLK day for inclusivity and whatnot.

Went to Temecula once, for a wedding.  My buddy was singing a couple songs at the big swanky reception.  The Californians didn't know he was from a tiny town in what they'd consider the middle of nowhere, and as is often the case, were very impressed with his "from-far-awayness."  He was a fantastic singer and did a great job as always.  Afterwards this really pretty girl borderline sexually assaulted him in the elevator.  I hit the button to get off and leave them to....whatever.  About 20 minutes later they showed back up at the reception, looking.....somewhat less put together than they had been.

That's my main memory of Temecula.  That, and a Mexican woman getting me drunk enough to dance with her (I don't dance) while her husband laughed at us (probably at me, specifically, trying to dance).

I've got sort of a whole Father's Day weekend thing going.  Tomorrow we're hosting a pool party/watch party for the USA soccer game.  Then on Saturday we're doing our annual Father's Day Brewery Crawl.  Sunday morning my i s c & a aggie wife is making brunch and we're hosting her dad and brother.  And then Sunday evening we're going to dinner at a steakhouse with my Dad.

Might need to take Monday off just to rest up and recover.

Father's Day will be mostly chill and unrelated. We actually did an early Father's Day last Sunday--played golf with my son, wife and other kids joined us for lunch at the golf course, and my wife made Italian Beef Sandwiches for dinner.

FIL and sMIL are coming in from Arizona this weekend, which is why we pulled *our* celebration in by a week.

Tomorrow we'll be celebrating my middle son's birthday, nothing crazy, just doing dinner at home with the in-laws. Saturday is my daughter's dance recital, so we're all going to that and then out for dinner afterwards. And Sunday will be Father's Day with FIL, so we'll be making carne asada tacos and again just hanging out at the house.

Sometimes things can turn around in a hurry.  Unexpectedly got my truck back yesterday afternoon and turned in the rental car.  Guy said the parts showed up in the morning and it was a short process to completion from there.  Then I heard from the shop my wife's car is in.  It was the alternator, which I just replaced last year.  Though it was one month out of the 1-yr warranty, Honda said they'd honor it and are shipping the part, no cost.  That's about as good $-wise and time-wise as I could've asked.

To boot, my job had closed at noon yesterday and all of today because of the tropical storm that was projected to hit us.  By noon, however, it had become clear the tropical storm had turned back more into the Gulf.  But where I work, once they announce a closure, they aren't taking it back, so I had all afternoon to get my truck, check on my wife's car, and then today take her to work and pick her up later.  And don't forget, no flooding "they" were worried about and bad weather, to boot.

Plus we already had tomorrow off, so this winds up being a 4-and-a-half day weekend.

I'm super happy to have my ride back and to know it's going to be minimal time and dollars to get hers back as well.

Also, got an Endo appt. this afternoon, so that means I don't even have to use any time off for it.  Same imaging that caught my kidney cancer caught lumps on my thyroid, but the kidney took priority, and it took forever to get in with Endo here.  They're doing the aspiration today (basically the equivalent of a biopsy, for a thyroid), but the doc already said due to good function and good lab results, and statistics, it's almost certainly not cancer.  They'll check to rule it out, and then that's one more thing not to be bothered about.

What a great Thursday.
