Is UCB the top choice?  I know it's often ranked as the top public in the US, which I infer means it's reasonably priced.  For college.

Yeah, it was his top choice. Top 3 were Berkeley, Michigan, and Purdue.

Oddly, in-state pricing is more expensive than Purdue out of state, but that's just the top line number. We'll end up saving money with him staying in state. Seems college these days are like medical bills--what they say it costs isn't actually what anyone actually pays lol.

In GA, there is a Hope Scholarship program that pays tuition, but not the other stuff (which gets pricey of course).  You need pretty good academics to get it, but you need that to get into Tech or even UGA these days.  It has significantly boosted UGA's academic numbers, I think, because so many in state kids want to go there now.

It's paid for out of the state lottery.

I'm curious what costs aside from tuition are these days.  My one kid not on scholarship at OSU was costing me about $17 K a year back when (2007-2011). She was pretty frugal.

I think that's one of the reasons my kid was denied at Tech... So many in state kids want to go there due to the Hope scholarship, that not being a very big school, they can be ultra selective.

I think the ex tuition "other stuff" as I've seen it quoted in most college materials has been in that $16-17K range.

Graduate students are the majority at GT, by quite a bit. That is not the case in Athens, where undergrad is king.
