It's not terrible from Omaha to Lincoln because it's 6 lanes
from Lincoln to York there's too much traffic
after York it isn't bad - just boring

Not sure how you avoid that in that general longitude. Recall the line in that Tom Hanks bore, whole lotta nothin' between South Texas and Canada on US Hwy 83.  And it ran through my town about halfway between those points.

well, if you're in a hurry, you're right.

Highway 92 south of 80 in Iowa is gonna take more time.
Same with hwy 30 north of 80
if you're quite a bit north hwy 20 is comparable in time.

If you can take some time and enjoy the trip, there are options

I'm trying to think of a way to talk my wife into doing one.  I did one with my kids, Ohio to Idaho, in a 4 cylinder minivan with a manual transmission.  Iowa is mostly flat and featureless.
I did I-80 from the Iowa border to the Bay Area when I moved to CA. I was traveling with my sister and her husband who had a truck to move a bunch of my stuff, and I trailed in my car. It was only the Iowa border b/c we'd headed down from Chicago to Lake of the Ozarks where they lived at the time, or it would have been I-80 straight from Illinois.

I swear across Nebraska I could have put "The Club" across my steering wheel, set the cruise, fallen asleep, and wouldn't have gone off the road. We had walkie talkies. I recall when we reached Wyoming I had to ask my BIL over the walkie talkie, "What the hell was that?! Was that a... curve?!"
