Well, congrats to her.  20 years ago I could've told her where all the best hidden spots to eat in College Station were, but it's probably all changed now.  It's a little cult-y around there, but on the whole, a town I'd feel pretty comfortable sending a kid off to college.  Just tell her to stay on the CS side and stay away from the Bryan side.....that's where things get shady.

Even Bryan is way less shady than downtown Austin these days.  My daughter went down to campus twice on her own (well, with friends, not parents) for various functions, and both times she was accosted by hostile homeless dudes.  Austin ain't anywhere close to what it once was, sadly.  I don't blame anyone at all for wanting to stay away.

The random small number of people who drink whiskey, smoke a pack a day, eat lots of bacon, and live to 100, exist.

That doesn't mean it's an optimal or high-odds strategy for the general public to expect the same.
You are an inspiration to us all, ya I get that, the point is his situation hardly indicates scholastic collapse, plenty of time for improvemnet. Young 94 like many may be more focused right now on fun, instead of facts and figures at 16-17. He has plenty of time to rachet it up after all "You're only young once"

I'd start worrying if he picked up a Golf Club.....or a Yuengling

Sunday evening, after the Nebrasketball game, I ate half a pound of bacon, drank a few glasses of Woodford, and smoked a cigar on the back deck

I'd like to live to 85.  Only 21 years and change to go

Congrats Utee and the ISCA Aggie Wife and her chip off the old block.

2 of my 3 daughters are K-Staters, and the one that didn't parlayed her Army Intelligence training into a rather ridiculous at age 24 135K salary working remote that gives her time and money to travel the world, including downtown Austin, where she was literally attempting to get her drunk new friends poured into an Uber when the shooting started a couple of Saturdays ago.

The kind driver took off, leaving them scrambling to get into a bar--of which a truly brave bouncer was herding people into at the time.

Made me happy I didn't wake up to worse news that Sunday morning.

Congrats to @utee94 on the daughter's great achievement! I'm happy.

aTm is a great school for Veterinary Medicine (and many other things).

It shares the top 5 VM spot with NCSU, UF, UPenn and UW (also makes me happy).

boss just invited me to the Minnesoota Wild game tonight!

I'll be headed north in an hour or so.

Planning to take my daughter to lunch tomorrow before heading home

Forced me to look that up, since I have a bunch of buddies that graduated from KSU, lucky #13, considering the multiple ties just ahead. One friend is a drug company salesman now, and he flies around the country wining and dining potential clients.  He's well suited for the role. Our pics clearly show his protruding liver may not be.

Congrats on the future Aggie grad!

Curious…if she’s intending on being a Vet, is she going to one day open her own practice ?  It seems like nowadays a lot of newly graduated vets start their own practice, but they aren’t small anymore. Most of them have big animal hospitals and such. The one near us just built a very large steel frame building, it had to be well over $1,000,000.

Oh yeah she also applied to Florida and was accepted.  Ended up being just too far away and they didn't offer enough money to make it competitive with A&M.

The main one she had talked about but didn't end up applying to was Wisconsin.  I encouraged her to give it a whirl but by that point I think she'd decided she wanted to stay closer to home.

She's not really sure yet.  We have a friend whose kid is graduating TAMU this year in animal science/pre-vet, and we're actually going to meet up with her when we do a visit to College Station next week.  She has a lot of insight as to what the possibilites are, including but not limited to strictly being a vet.

Besides the football stadium, what impressed me most about my trip to College Station/Bryan for a game a few years ago were the A&M undergrads.

They were sober, polite, went to church, dressed modestly, had upstanding plans for their futures when asked, and almost no tattoos. Other than Auburn's undergrads, I can't really say that about other campuses.

For better or worse, most college campuses look like your local dive bar scene, a music festival, or China.
