On my brewing rig, I have one ball valve that has always given me fits. It was one of the earliest produced by the company that builds brew rigs. I knew the guy who started the company, as he was part of my homebrew club, and I actually bought this rig secondhand from one of the other guys in the club who had brewed on it for a few years.
The annoyance for me was that the size of the tri-clover clamp fittings holding it to a kettle and to the tubing I needed to attach it to was a little "chunky" because of the early production runs. I'd have to fight it constantly to get it put together, trying to hold three things in place with two hands lol.
And then on top of that, when I came back from my brewing hiatus last year... It had developed a bit of a leak problem.
So I ordered a new one. It's got a wider internal diameter which should help flow rate (important for the wort cooling process), and it's built properly. So I just set up my rig to brew a hefeweizen, and the tri-clover clamps went together like a dream.
Oh, and because I kegged my schwarzbier a few weeks ago rather than doing it during brew day to free up the fermenter, I don't have to keg anything during my brew day today. So that's a couple of process and cleaning and other steps I can skip.
Happy.
