found a customer that is willing to meet me for happy hour in Benkleman, NE - place called ShaRae's Resturant
don't think they accept credit cards - but I'd guess $150 cash will cover
it's 52 degrees and sunny here - should have packed the clubs
That's pretty close to Big Ed's Steakhouse in Bird City, KS.  I've been wanting to go there forever.

only 20 miles away
I'll ask them about it and see if I can try it next time

the burrito I had smothered in green chili sauce was pretty good at ShaRae's Resturant

No!  But thanks, I have never been up the street on that block from the Courthouse, but I will!

I don't spend much time up there since the chief judge pissed me off several years ago.  They have a decent looking golf course, and the one 30 miles West in Norton is supposed to be great.  Need to go try them both out sometime.

And, if you ever make it in here, we have a good public course, and the country club is very nice.

It would make me happy if I had time and there wasn't snow all over the ground and I could play.  Sticking to topic, at least close.

This isn't limited to today, this has been going on for a few weeks now, but....

My office is located right near the school's baseball field, and our walls are crappy/not-soundproof enough that I can hear everything across the parking lot.  For a few weeks, I've heard the team practicing for the upcoming college beisbol season, so lots of aluminum bats clinking balls around.  That sound makes me happy.

Our kids might get NIL $, I have no idea, but they wouldn't be getting much compared to major schools, and they are mostly much more local than guys at a program like, say, LSU....they don't portal in here from somewhere else, and they likely won't be portaling out anywhere either.  They're never going to win any championships, but they've been out there in the cold prepping hard anyway, just 'cuz they love it, I guess.

Anyway, I like the sounds of the bats and the occasional yells of the kids when they get excited about something.

Plus, the coach here is an old LSU player from some of Skip Bertman's old great teams, so....that's kind of cool for me.  I should walk over there and introduce myself to him sometime.

Only bad thing is, they have a big Coca-cola truck out there that blasts music all day, and it is......not my thing.  Lots of songs I recognize and even like, but it's all dance remixes.  Eww.  But, I suppose that goes in the grumpy old man thread.

Oops, looks like the coach is younger than I thought.  He played from '04 to '07, putting him in the Smoke Laval era, I think, not the Skip Bertman era.  A couple of his teams went to the CWS but they did not win any titles in that era.

Ah well, I'd still shake the hand of a CWS participant, even if his crap teams couldn't get the job done :)
