Walleye/Perch it's great,truth be told I don't get up to the Lake Erie Islands like I used to when the folks had a place there.My brother has a place and a boat and I told him let's buy a shanty and an atv to pull it. But neither him or his son are interested,nor does he have enough room to store those.So it is now quite pricey to hire guides who have the shanties and the transportation that will take you out to the hotspots. I mean you could damn near eat at the best Steak Houses in NYC for what it costs. Realistically we used to get 3 months of ICE season but it's has been really sporatic in recent years.Like just this week it was bone chilling with the wind,20s even teens in some places.And more of the same on the way - it has to stay that way consistently like the old days to venture out

Man that's tough to hear.  I'll give you this-- y'all have so much great fishing, and a delectable array to eat.  I had my first walleye whilst working in Minnesota for several months, many years back, and I kept going back for more.

My bro, a couple of buds and his son do fish and we have a very spartan way of eating walleye. They are much bigger than perch the fillet is thick by the head but tapers down to the tail that makes cooking evenly tough.So one old friend who is a fishing whore - i mean worse than FF on the links ;D would cut the fillets length wise seperate - then cut everything in even pieces/cubes. Flour/Bread and into the deep fryer ensuring even cooking and pull athe right time.This is important with delicate fish fillets - gold Jerry gold. Not pretty but perfect

Walleye and perch are great. Lake Superior Whitefish is my favorite freshwater fish.

Walleye are by far my favorite fish.  

And yes- they are caught year round including through the ice.  

Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin have some amazing inland lakes to catch walleye without having to hit the bigger(great lakes), which can be tough at times.  

Fly in fishing in Canada is one of the best ways to catch cold, fresh walleye.  Cooked by light breading, a touch of salt and pepper at shore lunch- is amazing!  Throw in the fried potatoes and a few onions, some baked beans- and some of the best meals I have ever enjoyed.
