In early 1901, word was received that Carrie Nation, the legendary crusader against drinking and attacker of saloons, was coming to Sioux City. Assurances were given that her visit to Sioux City would be a peaceful one. Still, the mere threat of her arrival soon prompted the Sioux City Council to pass resolutions ordering the police chief to arrest her if she engaged in any saloon wrecking.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

Janet Jackson's Wardrobe Malfunctions (2004)
Nearly 90 million people watched Super Bowl XXXVIII, and approximately 540,000 of them filed complaints with the Federal Communications Commission after Justin Timberlake exposed fellow singer Janet Jackson's breast during the game's halftime show. The incident led to legal action, heavy fines, and a crackdown on aspects of US broadcasting considered indecent. Shortly after the "wardrobe malfunction," a streaker darted onto the field in an unrelated stunt.

I was today years old when I learned this past year's Rutgers rush defense was among the worst ever.

They allowed 6.8 yards per carry!  :a102:

Almost as unbelievable is that opponents still passed the ball 45.6% of the time against them.

Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame
·
J.C. “Pappy” Hoel, the founder of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, passed away on February 1, 1989, at the age of 85. This year marks 37 years since his passing, yet his legacy in American motorcycling remains as strong as ever.

A key figure in Sturgis, Hoel owned an Indian Motorcycle dealership and founded the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, which launched the first rally in 1938, originally known as the Black Hills Classic.

What began as a small gathering of riders grew into one of the most iconic motorcycle events in the world. His passion continues to live on every time engines roar through the Black Hills.
