Has anyone ( @Cincydawg ) driven the tunnel between Britain and France?  How do they handle the switch because Britain is RH drive vehicles driving on the left and the continent is LH drive vehicles driving on the right so is there a crossover part way?

Google says the Channel Tunnel is a railway, so I wouldn't guess any regular folks are driving it.

I thought it was for cars too.

My bad.

I have take the train ride through it coming and going.  There is a place in Hong Kong where the cars switch sides of the road.

Switching from left to right on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge - Checkerboard Hill

Apparently you drive your automobile onto a special chunnel train car and that is how you get from one side to the other.  Like a narrow underground ferry on rails.  I have never done this.

I thought it took cars and apparently it does, just not by driving.  That also would eliminate the switch-over issue since you would just get on the train on one side and off on the other.

Yup, you can get a car across the channel via the chunnel.  But you can't drive it yourself.

Which of course makes sense.

The Chunnel is 31 miles, and most of it is underwater.

Can you imagine how difficult it would be to handle all the vehicle exhaust building up down there if you could drive it?

Can you imagine the security or public safety issues you'd have to deal with if you had a multi-car crash right in the middle of it, completely stopping traffic?

I assumed it suddenly switched over halfway through, paint lines complimentary of a certain Wile E. Coyote....

I grew up playing football, so I think in yards for distance (visually, not driving to Vegas or anything).

A thing that gets more challenging is when a European asks how large your residence is, in square meters.

FACT OF THE DAY:
In 1916, there was a proposed Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would put all acts of war to a national vote. Anyone voting "yes" would have to register as a volunteer for service in the army.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

First Female Cadet Graduates from The Citadel (1999)
For more than 150 years, only male cadets were allowed to attend the Citadel, an elite military college in South Carolina. The first female cadet gained the right to enroll after a legal battle in 1995, but she left after less than a week. The next year, Nancy Mace, the daughter of US Army Brigadier General Emory Mace, enrolled, along with three other women. Mace graduated in three years, becoming the first female graduate of the Citadel.
