So....the wife and I queued up Marty Supreme last night --- a movie that I nearly went to the theater to see.

Glad I whiffed on the $60 bucks at the local movie house.

Anybody that has seen it ---  want to enlighten me on how on earth that pile of dung garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Picture?

2.5 hours I'll never get back, with not a single character in the entire movie that wasn't utterly detestable.

Also, who knew Mr. Wonderful could act?  Not bad, actually.

I rather enjoyed it. Definitely a picture of unadulterated ambition, hustle and pace.

But yeah, no really good people. Just ones trying to get ahead in their own ways.

That's where the sequel comes in.

You know damn well it's coming.
Won’t be a sequel. The family/their lawyers will see to that.

If there’s an estate and it’s making money, they get real protective of that stuff.

It's making money.

Pretty sure Sony bought the music catalog, including MJ's stuff and all of the other stuff MJ bought along the way.

Pretty sure Sony bought the music catalog, including MJ's stuff and all of the other stuff MJ bought along the way.
his estate still owned his music publishing rights 100% up until a couple years ago when Sony bought 50% of MJ publishing for $600 million.

In 2016 Sony bought Jackson’s 50% stake in SonyATV- one of the largest music publishing companies in the world for around $750 million if memory serves correct. Probably not a great deal for the estate as that 50% stake is probably worth well over $1 billion now.

Jackson famously outbid Paul McCartney in 1980s to buy ATV (the company that owned the Beatles publishing rights) for $47 million dollars. He then turned around in the 90s and signed a deal with Sony to merge the companies- Sony gave him $195 million in cash and 50% of the new company SonyATV- he was already the biggest most influential recording artist on the planet at the time- and that move probably made him tthe single most powerful person in the music business. Lot of people in the music industry would have reason to want to tank him and bring him down. Music business has long been a nasty one that conspires to cheat and destroy the artists- can’t have the ones who actually create the art and produce the product having too much power.

That is gonna be interestingly messy. Unless they have a lot of self-awareness.

So you prefer your leading men with muscles, a square jaw, and a big, throbbing......?
Who's gay?

Bruce Miller, Lee Enterprises' entertainment reporter, says that there's a good movie to be made about Michael Jackson's life, but "Michael" isn't that movie.

I turned it on, Marty Supreme, during a 2hr 20 flight recently and wasnt able to catch the last 20 min or so.  I dont really care if I ever see the end of it.

I got bored and started to not care at all

My wife has the same thoughts about Chalamet. She's not into waifish effeminate men. Her ideal is JJ Watt. Just as I'm more of a fan of Scarlett Johansen type than Kate Moss.

Which makes it good that although I'm no JJ Watt, I'm a lot closer to Watt's end of the spectrum than Chalamet's. And my wife has curves, like Scarlett.  So we're well suited to each other.

But I get it. If my wife and @Mdot21 have the same taste in men, who am I to judge? :57:
