The "irregardless" thing from the other thread reminded me about a good movie that's worth a watch if you haven't seen it, called The Professor and the Madman.  Stars Mel Gibson and Sean Penn.  About how the first Oxford English Dictionary came to be, and illustrates how monumental of a task it was.  It might sound boring based on that, but there's a lot more to it, and it's definitely film to see if you haven't already.

I vaguely recall that movie coming out but I don't think I ever saw it.  I'm a word-nerd among many other nerddoms, my mom was an English teacher early-on, so it's probably something I'd dig.

Oh, completely randomly caught the first two episodes of the new "Scrubs" last night.  It was pretty entertaining.  If you liked the original series you'll probably like this as well.

I loved the original Scrubs, until the last season when it switched networks, lost some of the cast, and probably writers, because the tone was just way off.  I saw it was re-starting, but I didn't know it was out already.  Gonna check it out.

I think you'd really like The Professor and the Madman.  Sean Penn's portrayal of a tormented man struggling with mental illness was really good.  A great story about insanity, loss, anger, bitterness, redemption, and the aristocracy's bias toward a Scotsman.  And the nerdy intricacies of cranking out a dictionary!

Yeah it got weird when they brought in a new batch of interns and turned it into a campus-based teaching hospital or something?  It was completely different, I only watched one or two of those before ditching it.

The new one has a lot of the same energy as the original.

Speaking of Scrubs, and previously, The Evil Dead.....  There was a show similar to Ash vs. Evil Dead that ran at about the same time, which starred John C. McGinley from Scrubs (Dr. Cox) called Stan Against Evil.  It was also clearly a comedy, but also a kept a foot planted firmly in the horror genre.  Curious if you ever saw it.

That also reminds me of a show on HBO called Shining Vale with Courtney Cox of Friends fame, which was also a comedy-horror which I found pretty funny, but it was canceled after two seasons, so there's no resolution to the story.

Per the restaurants thread, what are some movies that you do like to watch again. I'll throw out some of my favorites. What I realize is that what are actually my favorite movies are not the ones I necessarily would watch the most (only two of my most easily rewatched movies). For me, a really quotable movie is clearly one that I will happily rewatch--particularly if it is funny.

Just about always up for a watch:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Tombstone
Talladega Nights
Dr. Strangelove
Best in Show

Deserve rewatching every once in a while:
Unforgiven
Blazing Saddles
Casablanca
Star Wars & Empire Strikes Back
Pulp Fiction
Inglorious Bastards
Waiting for Guffman
Monty Python: The Life of Brian
The Harry Potter Series
Zombieland

Good to remind yourself every so often how good this movie is:
Shawshank Redemption
Silence of the Lambs
The Godfather
Everything Everywhere All At Once
The Dark Knight
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Saving Private Ryan
Ratatouille
The Incredibles
True Romance
Reservoir Dogs
Midnight in Paris
Thelma & Louise
Jaws
Terminator 2

I used to absolutely love There's Something About Mary. I think I need to watch it again to see if it holds up for me.

Good list.  Many of those I've only seen once, but I really enjoyed them.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail I've seen gobs of times, and it never gets old.

Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman are two of a handful of movies the core cast has done together, I generally like them.  I've seen Best in Show probably 3 times, which is a lot, for me.

I was a little disappointed with Midnight in Paris, but it had Marion Cotillard, so.....that kinda made up for it.

Everything Everywhere All At Once was great.  I'll probably watch it again someday.

Jaws.....actually never seen it, and kinda doubt I ever will.  My age group missed the event in real time, I never caught up with it on a Things To Do list or watch-this-for-cultural-curiosity's-sake, and now I suspect I never will.  I heavily suspect it wouldn't hold up for me and the main draw would be nostalgia, of which I have none related to it, so....

I'm going to suggest that you try Jaws. Yes, the cinematography is out of date, but the mechanical shark was hokey even at the time. The story is pretty solid: small town politics, fear of the unknown, good suspense, and an exciting climax. It's slow by modern standards, of course, but the characters are solid, between the small town sheriff, the small town mayor, the scientist, the fisherman, and the various townspeople it's a good blend. It's more suspense, with a little gore, than actually horror.

Maybe you'll hate it, but at least you'll know.

Jaws is a movie that has somehow been done injustice by the fame.

If I had never seen it, I'd probably have no interest, based on what its reputation is, which is like a higher budget Towering Inferno.  But it's so damn good.

Speaking of cheesy 70s disaster movies, Airplane! remains my most rewatchable comedy

It screams erotic thriller \n\ - a film, book, or television subgenre that blends suspense, crime, and danger with themes of intense sexual desire, obsession, and passion.
