Warning:  spoilers for anybody who hasn't watched Defending Jacob and might want to.

@jgvol , we finished Defending Jacob over the weekend.  I liked it about the same as Presumed Innocent although as you mentioned, Defending Jacob didn't have annoying sex flashbacks.  One thing that made it more watchable, in a way, was Chris Evans' character was likeable, whereas Jake Gyllenhal's character seemed to be intentionally unlikable.  What I didn't like about it was you never find out if Jacob did it or not.  That irked me.  It leaves you thinking he's a weird kid with definite sociopathic tendencies, so....maybe.  Also there was the convicted pedo who was forced to "confess" and was then killed.....obviously he didn't mean to confess, but that didn't mean he didn't do it.  Or maybe something else altogether.  I just thought there would be some resolution to the story, but there wasn't.  Maybe it was meant to bring the viewer into the headspace of the parents in a situation where you never know for sure.  But it took the air out of it, for me.

Still, all in all, good show worth the watch. These all go under a genre that, for me, originated with Broadchurch.....slow burn murder mysteries where the personal lives of everybody in a community are exposed in the course of solving a crime.  Or at least, Broadchurch is the first thing I remember watching with this vibe.

So did you end up loathing the mom/wife?  Her neuroticism throughout had me ready to slap her, ala Airplane — settle down!

I am a fairly laid back dude, and would never be able to handle those histrionics, but she played the part very well.  The crash scene was intense. Along with not knowing if Jacob did it, I also don’t know his health outcome.

Definitely leaves the viewer grappling, which I don’t mind too much.

She got annoying, but I thought her character was understandable.  The not knowing just broke her, and I think that would probably be pretty true to life for a lot of personalities.  By the time she finally snapped at the end, I felt like the story had laid the groundwork for that really well, and so it wasn't too surprising.

What really sucked on her part was when she was talking to Chris Evans at the end, talking about "What if this messes with Jacob's memory?  What if he thinks I did this on purpose?"  Lady......you went crazy, just admit you went crazy, don't lie about it.  And Chris Evans.......that guy just can't see the darkness in any of his family.  That was annoying too.  In a good way.....in the sense that the story and the acting were so well done that personality flaws grate you the same as they would in real people you know.

Yes!  This was the the cherry on top for me.  Contemptable.

Along with Evans coddling her (her clearly OK), and ignoring his son on life support.

Rage bait.

I've heard people who aren't happy with s2, but I haven't seen either season.  Never played the video game, so I don't know how much that would matter.

I liked Fallout, and that was also based on a video game, but it didn't matter that I'd never played it.

I tried.  Didn't make it far.  Bailed on it.

Same for this one.  The literal butt clapping going on in this one was shocking.

I thought Season 1 of the Last of Us was fantastic. So far I thought episodes 1 and 2 of Season 2 were really good, but episodes 3 and 4 do lay on the gay pretty thick. FWIW, I thought the love story in season 1 (I think it was episode 3--the Nick Offerman episode) was one of the great love stories told on tv, which happened to be gay. It was a choice, for sure, but the story itself didn't feel forced; it seemed genuine. This season--and these last two episodes--feel different. Ham handed. As I understand from a friend who played the game, it's consistent with the game, version 2, but he was also turned off by they way they treated it in the game. (And the original game is one of, if not his favorite video game of all time.)
