  • QBs outside the tackle box were now allowed to intentionally ground the ball without penalty, if it passed the line of scrimmage
  • South Carolina opened the season by beating New Mexico State, to end a 21 game losing streak, the longest ever for an SEC team, and the longest by any power conference team since 1982, 4th longest ever.  They then upset #10 Georgia, to get off to a 7-1 start and reaching #17 in the polls, going from 0-11 to 8-4 and a Top 20 final ranking
  • BCS selecting Florida State over Miami and Washington led to the future addition of the Quality Win portion
  • Big West stopped sponsoring football after the season
2003
  • Halo Rule eliminated
  • Army was first 0-13 team in college football history
  • Final split championship, after USC finished #1 in the AP Poll, but was #3 in the BCS, and left out of the Sugar Bowl

I honestly think if I could lock in everything about college football, in terms of conference affiliations, tv coverage, style of play, etc, 2003-2004 might be my pick, so that breaks a close tie for me.

This was also the last season I was "all in" as a Michigan fan.
