  • Won at #3 Penn State, but lost at home to #16 Florida State in non-conference play
  • Lost at home in the season finale to Oklahoma, to lose the Big 8 title
  • Beat #17 Mississippi State in the Sun Bowl
  • SP+ #3 team of the 80s
  • All-Americans: RB Jarvis Redwine, OG Randy Schleusner, DT David Clark, NT Kirk Hineline, LB Derrie Nelson, S Russell Gary


1987 Florida State (11-1)
  • Lone loss was on another failed 2 point conversion at Miami
  • Won by 28 at #6 Auburn, and beat #5 Nebraska 31-28 in the Fiesta Bowl
  • 10 regular season wins were by an average of 32 ppg, with the closest being a 14 point win at Florida
  • SP+ #4 team of the 80s
  • All-Americans: CB Deion Sanders (unanimous), TE Pat Carter, OT Pat Tomberlin, LB Paul McGowan, K Derek Schmidt

I think that Husker D was too good vs run and pass.  FSU's D was great against the pass, but that's sort of wasted vs Nebraska.  But this is definitely a toss-up.
