Ranking each...

SW
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One
Revenge of the Sith
Force Awakens
A New Hope
Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones

MCU (No Iron Man/CA)
The Avengers
Guardians
Doctor Strange
The Dark World
Ant-Man
Thor
Age of Ultron
Hulk

Haven't seen Guardians 2 or Homecoming, so leads to a nice 8 on 8 matchup

I think both go about 5 deep really strong, with #6 (New Hope/Thor) being solid.  Bottom two in each are pretty rough.  I think part of me is jaded by nostalgia and the fact that I grew up with Star Wars, but I think that wins by a nose for me.  If I were 15 years younger, might be different.

These are my 2 favorite franchises, so I'm liking the finals.

If the MCU included Iron Man 1 and Winter Solider (2 of my favorite 3 in the MCU) I would pick the Avengers.  But... I think I have to go with the classic's man.

Also looking forward I'm really excited about the next 2 Star Wars movies (Last Jedi and Han Solo,) and kinda confused on what the MCU is doing (Thor/Hulk team up, Black Panther~ish, Ant/Wasp team up, supposed to all these movies would climax for 2 Infinity War movies, but now it's just one, and a bunch more stuff?)

Who ousted Jurassic Park? And Toy Story? Die Hard? Shrek? Despicable Me? TMNT? Cars? I guess I would appreciate getting a recap of this whole thing.

I'd rank Force Awakens above Sith, by a pretty wide margin. Just how they had to shoe horn their movie into synching with the OT was really bad. NOOOOOOOOOO!

I didn't think Homecoming counted towards Avengers since Spidey has his own franchise?

Yeah, I don't really agree with AAA's ranking of the Star Wars movies at all.  Probably a matter of perspective due to our differences in age-- I saw them each when they first premiered in the movie theaters.  My rankings:

Stars Wars (it's not "A New Hope" to me, get off my lawn")
Empire
Return
Force Awakens
Rogue One
Sith
Clones/Phantom (tossup for me and I don't really care because they're by far the worst of the franchise IMO)

Anyway, as much as I like Avengers, it's not anywhere close to as iconic as Star Wars, and so Star Wars gets my vote.

I thought so at first watch, the more I watched it though, the more I think I was just happy to see Star Wars back, and how the movie is good, but not great.

A New Hope really has very little action in it, and aside from the final Death Star battle, is actually just kind of boring with some awful dialogue.  I think maybe it's getting a nostalgia bump.  I actually had a co-worker tell me to (if its possible) go back and try to watch it with an open mind and not under the preconceived notion that it's great, and then try and tell someone why it's great.  IMO, he's right.  Sith has bad acting and overuse of CGI, but on the whole I find it much more watchable than A New Hope, of which the first hour and a half is no better than Menace/Clones.

We lost the old board so I don't remember who JP lost to.  I think TMNT lost to Avengers?  Toy Story, Shrek, Despicable Me and Cars got the boot when we flipped from Kids to Horror as the 4th bracket.  Die Hard didn't make it in.

I'm very much in the minority, but I'm not a star wars fan nor do I think the movies are all that great.   I was never into them as a child and as an adult, I find them poorly written with many logic holes (I'm talking about how trained warriors could be beaten by fury animals with rocks.. that sort of thing..)  I'm ok being the minority on it too.   I don't mock those who look at star wars as if it transforms them to their childhood or anything like that.. I think it's great.  It's just not the movies that do it for me..

Avengers.

Star Wars is the original,  it created the universe, and completely changed the way SciFi movies were made, and watched, by hundreds of millions of people.  I've watched it hundreds of times, and will watch it pretty much any time it comes on.

So, in short, I completely disagree with you. :)

Yeah, I get why some like Empire better.

Star Wars was a bastion of creativity on a shoestring budget.

Something that had never been done before.

The rest are riding its coattails.

I mean, yes it created the universe in that it created the characters and was the first movie, but really in a vacuum it doesn't do much to create the universe.  It works as a standalone movie for a reason, Lucas wasn't sure he'd get approval for any sequels.

Technologically, absolutely.  As a piece of entertainment, it's closer in my mind to I and II in enjoyment than it is to V or VI.
