the more I dig into the stats and matchups, the more I lean to the Husker's defense shutting down Notre Dame and winning a game between the two on the field

the resumes are close

Did you watch the game?
I did, and O was rooting for ASU because they were ranked ahead of tOSU but I don't remember much because:
  • I was in college and watching at a party, and
  • It was 26 years ago, and
  • Alcohol may have been involved (see #1 above).

But ND beat FSU

This talk of 1996 reminds me …

It is buckwild that one drive separated ASU from a national title and Spurrier from never winning one.

What I recall from the game was that Nebraska wasn't going to win even if they played 20 quarters.

Then he would have won one another year.  Butterfly effect and all.

Could've gotten the Gamecocks to the mountaintop, I suppose.

I think in single games like this, it's turnovers that most often make the difference, and TOs largely are not predictable.

Except that good QBs tend to throw fewer INTs and traditional option teams tend to have more fumbles (and thus, lost fumbles).

Well, nothing says 90's college football like an inability to break ties

Doc Tom Osborne - 3 ties - 1 in the 90s when the Buffs blocked the 41 yard FG on the last play of the game
Boo Hoo Lou Holtz - 7 ties - 3 in the 90s
