I'm old enough to have paid $30 or so for a tire. I remember places that sold retreads, for car use, for $15. My Dad told me not to get those. When radials came out, I switched early because folks claimed they saved gas. I didn't see any change. I had 14" wheels on that car. Wheel size has gone crazy in my view (aside from a real performance auto).
