I've been trotting out 3 or more TVs on Saturdays since the early 90s,  amazing how much simpler it became once, 1. Technology improved, 2. I had income and 3. Ability to hire low voltage firms to install and make it look good.  I run all of this through Savant system.   Don't even have a remote control anymore.  Control all of this on a smart phone or tablet.

I'm guessing msu maryland was on that right tv which tends to be a 3rd option and likely flipping to a 4th game.  Obviously Iron Bowl had the main focus and sound at the time.

We bought a Samsung QLED 65 inch a couple of years ago and I noticed a huge difference, even with satellite Tv. Even the non-HD channels stood out. And then we went camping at a park that did not offer any internet or cable hook ups, so I bought a directional TV antenna. When I found the station carrying the game, I could not believe how great the picture was. It blew away the satellite feed and was almost like being at the game. As bwarbiany explained, the over that air broadcast is not compressed like the satellite feed is. It made a huge difference.

FYI, the OTA is usually not compressed AS BADLY as the satellite feed is. All signals are compressed using industry-standard algorithms, but not all compression is equal in the way it's implemented.

If you've ever ripped DVDs to video files (or even just CD to MP3), you'll know that every compression program will have settings that is always a balance of video/audio quality vs file size.

Satellite and cable are trying to fit as many channels as possible into a single limited-bandwidth cord, so the tighter they squeeze the quality settings, the more content they can provide. IPTV and streaming providers are only giving you one "channel" at a time, but they also know that internet bandwidth isn't free or unlimited, so they have incentive to squeeze it as much as possible as well.

OTA broadcast has a band of spectrum allocated. If they use 100% of their allocation, it doesn't hurt them or cost them extra. So they have more incentive to optimize for picture quality in their compression.

For most things I'm watching, I just let Hulu stream it to me even if it's on a channel I can pick up OTA, because honestly it's just easier. But for sports, if it's OTA I default to the antenna. The picture quality difference is immediately noticeable.

I have an antenna, but I wouldn't even know where to point it down here.

I put one on the wife's small TV in her office, it's omnidirectional and works inside quite well, but of course we're near transmitters here.

How do you find where transmitters are located?

Here it doesn't matter of course.  If you live out of town, the transmitters would be nearer whatever larger town is nearby, and you can find them on the Internet.

Thanks. Should be able to pull here, with most stuff between 10-14 miles away.

You likely can use an indoor simple antenna.  With HD they work pretty well I find, none of what we used to do.

For sports, I'd rather have a decent 65" and a second 55" rather than one larger TV costing the same, if I had wall space.

I'll have the big one on the wall, which I can see from my kitchen, and there will be a smaller one actually in the kitchen that I can also watch, for secondary games. One outside too, and one in my office.

I am tempted to get a small TV near my larger one for games and use the antenna.  I could move the one up from the wife's office of course.

Generally I just channel surf.

I just counted our TVs in my head, it's kind of ridiculous.    Growing up we had two TVs, one in the living room, and one in my parents' master bedroom.

Now, I have 7 (not counting the 2 in the RV).

1 x Master bedroom
1 x Master bathroom
1 x Living room
1 x Kids' game room
2 x Adult game room/sports bar (that's where we have our pool table, and 2 TVs for game-watching)
1 x outdoor patio, visible from the pool and hot tub

To answer badge's original question, most of them are Samsung since I, too, like and trust the brand.  The newer ones are all 4K, but none are OLED/QLED, which looks amazing and will likely be my next one for the living room, which is our main family movie/game-watching area, when we're not upstairs in the billiards room/sports bar.
