And no apologies needed from you, just as I would not apologize for being center-right.
You should do stand-up.

Best wishes from CD.  The book I've been talking about goes into how he got himself elected to Congress in AZ, I found it interesting.

Ruben Gallego (D) "The Called Us Lucky"  about Lima 3/25 in Iraq, it's pretty gritty, along the lines of With the Old Breed.

He doesn't make their COs look very good with a couple exceptions.

We had a local rep resign due to a scandal (conservative Republican who had paid for an abortion for a staffer).  So we had a special election, that was free of primary.  Instead of picking between the lesser of two evils, both candidates actually represented Western PA.  The D was a pro-Union, pro drilling, pro-life, but prospending, blue collar D.  The debates were awkward, because they agreed on resource development, abortion rights, etc..., which actually reflects the mood of the region.  I'm not saying I agreed or disagreed with their platforms, but it was very refreshing to have two candidates acknowledge that a Western PA D shouldn't look like a California D, and a Western PA R, shouldn't look like an Alabama R.  That was only plausible because they didn't have to primary.  Both parties nominated their candidate, and both put up the most centrist option.  The D won, and as much as I liked him, the Twitter backlash once he didn't fall in line with the national platform was disappointing.

In my humble opinion, aligning with something detested by your constituents (but only in concept because perhaps geography/distances moots the impact) in trade for support isn't the way to go about governing.

Further in my opinion, if this is the choice that elected representative is faced with, then it is in a "court" exceeding its relevance.. pass it down to state, or county, or city, and let those who it will impact decide.

We're all hung up on party... I dont mind telling you all the only thing I detest more than a republican is a democrat- but it's close.....

We really need good people in politics, not good politicians in people.  I'm gonna charge Ms. SFIrish with that from afar... anyone with integrity and humanity is far better than the alternatives. Some see the posting as something that serves them while the rare bird sees the post as a means to serves the community.  No matter our politics personally held, I figure we can all agree with that?

And... this is America.  There are things going on I probably hate.  Yet, if that is what the majority of folks from the districts it's happening in want- AND it isn't infringing on personal liberties ensured by the BoR, it ain't no business of mine if it's happening or not so long as those folks are fairly represented.

I aint saying I'm right, but... well.. yes I am.  I'm right.  :)

Years ago NPR had a neat segment with two new Congressmen, one D one R.  They interviewed them as the weeks went by about their experiences.  They both sounded very rational and well intentioned, I'd catch it on the way to work.  (Yes, I listened to NPR on the way to work.)

They stopped it about the time it got more interesting, the first portions were about how they were adjusting to their new jobs etc.  I have a notion they got jaded pretty fast, and what we see for the most part is everyone voting in lock step with their party leaders, with a few exceptions at times.

We elect someone and can rely on them to vote how their party tells them, instead of how they personally evaluate the situation.
