I have a new pet peeve.  People that use their garage as a storage unit and park their cars outside.

And I realize I am once again I seem to be the one holdout because all my neighbors seem to do this.  I will cut one of my neighbors some slack because he parks his boat in the garage.

But I am putting my foot down in our own house.  We are not going to use our 2-car garage as a storage unit this winter.  We are going to park both cars inside even though both cars are extra long and extra wide SUVs and the garage was built for your average 4-door sedans.  But we will make it work.
We are all equal but some are more equal than others.

I don't care if other folks want to park cars outside and fill the garage with crap

I just think they are stoopid SOBs

especially during the winter in the great white north

I find out "stuff" expands into whatever volume we have, and a garage become volume.

I park my Jeep in the garage, but there's not enough room [b/c of all the storage] to fit a second car in that 2-car garage...

I don't have any other place to store that stuff, though...

We see a lot of that down here, even though it's supposedly against HOA rules.

My wife's car stays outside because we have a two car garage, my car is black, hers is white, and we have a golf cart.

Other people mostly use it as storage. They bring all their shit from up North and realize we don't have basements here.

When's the last time you opened the boxes?

If it's more than 5 years, take to the curb, or better yet, donate it.

When we had two cars we parked my wife's in the garage and left my pickup on the driveway.  The pickup fits in the garage but it's really tight, so we'd only bring it in when threatened with a potential hailstorm or tornado or something.

Then we had 3 cars and then 4 cars.  The kids had the newest cars so theirs went in the garage and my wife's and mine stayed on the driveway.

Now we're back down to 3.

I don't care if people want to park in their driveways because their garages are full.

But I do have a pet peeve about people who park their cars on the street in front of my house, when the street space in front of their house is open and usable.  It doesn't really happen in our current neighborhood because our neighbors are great, but in our old neighborhood it was a daily occurrence.

Like they ignore open space in front of their house and park elsewhere? Thats real odd.

Yes.  They'd ignore the open street parking space in front of their own house, and park on the street in front of my house.  it's weird but both of my old neighbors would do it.  I talked to each of them a couple of times and asked them to park in front of their own houses, and they'd agree, and then a week or two later they'd be in front of my house again.  I have no idea why.  I could understand if they had so many cars and they'd already exhausted all of the street space in front of their own houses, but in this case they had available street parking in front of their own houses, and parked in front of mine instead.

After a while I started randomly parking in front of their houses in retaliation, whenever they were parked in front of mine.

We're pretty aggressive about getting rid of stuff, actually. There are a few boxes that are things (family stuff) my wife won't get rid of, but those are up in the rafters in our garage, not where they're actually getting in the way of us using space. It's all stuff that gets used regularly. And it's not just boxes... It's four fridge/freezers, my brewing equipment, two large toolboxes, and a lot of cooking equipment / kitchen stuff that we use periodically but can't fit in the kitchen.

It's just the natural thing when you've got a 3bd/2ba house that's under 1200 sf, and 4+* people living here. 10 lbs of potatoes in a 5 lb sack...

(I say 4+ bc #5 is off at college, but he hasn't truly "launched" yet so for now the bedroom he shares with his brother is still set up as if he lives here 100%.)

That's weird... I occasionally park in front of a neighbor's house, but it's only when someone's parked in front of mine already. But that's the norm in our neighborhood because everyone has to use their garages for storage since the houses are so small...

One of them even had an open driveway with plenty of room for both of his cars, but instead of parking both cars in the driveway, he'd park one in the driveway and one on the street.  But instead of using the open street space in front of his own house, he'd use the space in front of mine.  It was weird and annoying, thus appropriate for the pet peeve thread.

Just one of the many many reasons why I hate people.
