OT - Pet Peeves Thread

Another... Ordering food on my phone at an actual restaurant. This mostly died post-COVID. 

And yet here I am at the airport bar wanting breakfast before my flight. Ordered my coffee, and then asked the bartender for a food menu. He said it's all on the app. 

Scan the QR code, and it forces me to "sign up" before I even see a menu. Oh HELL no. 

Guess I'll just have my coffee. I don't need the airport bar emailing me daily too now.

I'm okay with a QR-code based menu as long as there's a server to take my order, refresh drinks, and all the other stuff that goes with it.

Bur I walk out of any restaurant that only allows ordering through their app.  Nope.

I've been places with the QR thing and no internet service, no wifi.  The waiter gets exasperated.

This is less common now with this 5G thing I reckon.  I want a paper menu.

I went to a bar that only allowed ordering online, either through an app or through a website, but either way, they couldn't just take an order and punch it into their system.  I looked over their draught beer menu and they didn't have the beer listed, that I saw on the tap wall and wanted.  I asked the bartender how I could order that specific beer, and he said I couldn't if it wasn't in the app.  I asked if I could order a beer of the same price and just tell him directly that I wanted the other one.  He seemed confused and/or unwilling to do that.

I walked out and that was the last time I had any involvement with a bar or restaurant that went app-only.

The Taco Mac near us closed, which is no loss.  I went once, their claim to fame was over 100 beers on tap.  It's being replaced by a seafood place called The Juicy Crab, which is a small chain.  I glanced at their menu, not really impressed but whatever.

We have a decent seafood place I like a lot, two others closed (no loss).  My wife is lukewarm on it, but they have a nice deck.

Tomorrow is my birthday, so I get to dine out on her nickel.  She chose Bacchanalia, which was pricey.  I chose a steakhouse in Marietta, which is odd, but we had lunch there.

That’s extra weird because obviously at a certain point this person will not be getting work or tips on account of this system.

I’d add, if they must automate out, give me a kiosk. I don’t need you harvesting my data because you’re too useless to provide any service. I will say, still love places that take my order over the phone.

Walking back from the dentist, I passed two bicycles, on the sidewalk.  The street has a bike lane ....

Maybe the concept of a bike lane is ... confusing?

We're seeing all of this in restaurants now because of the higher costs of labor (minimum wages).

It won't be long before all of those jobs are gone.

Another pet peeve:

Restaurants that don't take cash, but charge 3% to use a credit card. I'm seeing this more and more lately.

The order kiosk is a Pet Peeve of its own.

Great if you like spending 15 minutes ordering 2 cheeseburger meals.

Or like the one at my cafeteria at work. You can order a burger. You can order a burger and "make it a meal" i.e. add fries and drink. But you can't order a burger and fries. It's not possible. You can't even order fries a la carte. 

And don't get me started on how pre-kiosk, you could order garlic fries... That option is RIGHT OUT.
