OT - Pet Peeves Thread

Thankfully the only part of my open living space where the ceiling is 8' is in the kitchen. Even still, my 5-8 (probably 5-7 now) body can't get to the top shelves.

Hotels that don't have bar soap, and only have pump-top body wash, in the shower. I mean, I'm sure it saves you 15 cents per guest, but seriously you can't just give me a bar of damn soap?

Also, hotels with shower heads that are about 5'10" above the shower floor. An extra foot of pipe to raise that higher is not a ton of money, and it would make sure I don't have to practically do a squat to rinse my hair. I know I'm an outlier with my height, but any man over 6' tall is going to be annoyed with that shower head.

My peeve is that soap. The bar soap is trash and pump soap is nicer on the skin.

Seems like websites are asking you to accept cookies and pop-up permissions on every single visit.Except CFB fan forums. And why does it seem all the online newspaper sites that end in Times are behind a paywall

The cookie thing has to do with European data privacy laws. 

And the paywall thing is because those people finally figured out a basic thing about business.

Fortunately, only affects 3-5% of guys worldwide, and only 14% in the USA. 

My pet peeve as a short guy --- tall guys whining about being tall.

Eat a dick. 

As MDT says, I'm not whining about being tall. I'm complaining about builders being short-sighted [pun intended] and cutting unnecessary corners that exclude a good portion of the population.

Per your last point, I'm not all that interested... But even if I were, at my height it would certainly not be physically pleasant...

Eh. I'm not precious. I don't worry about my skin from soap, especially the limited number of days I spend in hotels. 

Hell, in a pinch I'll use bar soap on my hair. It's not like I ever let it grow long enough to worry about damage or split ends.

My pet peeve is not being able to reach a handheld showerhead in a bathroom for people who are abnormally tall.

Companies that won't leave me the hell alone with either promotional emails or app notifications. 

What got me is now that NFL has started, I loaded up the ESPN Fantasy app. Holy shit they're spamming me like goddamn crazy with notifications! Not just crap related to my team. Not just crap related to my league, or even just football. I got some crap about Kawhi Leonard even though I'm not in a fantasy basketball league. I swear on non-gamedays I'm getting at least 10-15 notifications. And during games yesterday? Probably triple digits. 

Then there's the emails. Heck, I have accounts with the credit bureaus b/c I keep my credit frozen unless I need it. Well, I'm getting at least an email a day from Experian. Offering me credit cards, loans. They just said "you can refi your auto loan"--umm, I'm pretty sure you're not giving something lower than 1.9%, guys... They're congratulating me for things like having a perfect payment history for the last 8 months since I opened the account. You're the credit bureau... You should know I've had a perfect payment history for 20+ years. 

And then there's the retailers. Order one thing, and suddenly a company thinks you need an email every day in case you want to order more. And the worst is when it's something you ordered, where you bought someone a gift, and now the company is spamming you despite the fact they don't offer products you yourself would ever actually want. Before Christmas I did some research on sports bras because I know my wife was getting regularly annoyed [one of her pet peeves] by sports bras without fixed / sewn-in pads. They always get all screwed up in the laundry. So I found a brand that was reportedly comfortable with sewn-in pads, and I got to be the hero husband by alleviating her pet peeve. Well now I've got my own pet peeve. "Brad, we're running low on your size! Order soon!" Sorry, y'all, but I can guarantee I'm not a 34D. 

These companies have zero chill.

Not the same thing, but this makes me think of a current pet peeve, one that recurs every couple of years.  My YouTube commercials and the cable commercials now that we've cut tv on for football are blitzing me with political campaign ads.  

It's not that I don't care anything about politics.  But I have less than zero patience for campaign ads.  If only they knew that they're just about actively discouraging my vote for a candidate whose campaign has relentlessly annoyed me.....well, they still wouldn't stop, I suppose.  But I wish they would.

And what was even more aggravating was with Hulu Live TV, I was getting things like political ads for local TX candidates during the TX/OSU game. 

I can't even vote for "the other guy" because I'm annoyed by the ad, because I can't vote in TX elections at all!

I seem to visit Wisconsin a lot during even-numbered years, and because of Wisconsin's politics, that means an avalanche of campaign ads. Coming from somewhere that even in the worst of time doesn't get targeted that much, it's stunning...and appalling. And yeah, I find it pretty amusing that I saw some ads on Saturday for candidates in Ohio, I think? Sure.

Incorporating AI bots into "call centers" has upped my spam calls to 10-15 a day.

The old humans at least had the courtesy to not leave a voicemail.  Not the AI bots.  I delete 10-15 voicemails per day as well.

I've taken to answering and immediately hanging up just to avoid the voicemail.

It's a problem.

Whoa, that's weird.  Hulu, etc. is supposed to carry local network affiliates for the broadcast stations.  Hypothetically, that would mean that affiliate stations elsewhere are carrying those campaign ads for different states.  Which makes no sense, because a campaign surely wouldn't spend the money on national air time for those.  

Something in my equation is off.  At least one of these things isn't operating like I think it does.
