My wife's house in Cincy was quite nice, not huge, but nice, great backyard, we usually ate in the kitchen, but it had a separate dining room which we almost never used. I suspect this is common. The living room was sunken, which my wife didn't like at all. I tried to explain why it was "a thing" when the house was built (1987).
We had to replace the deck and used Timbertek, which got really hot in the sun. I found an outfit that put a ceiling under the deck, so the downstairs are below was then concreted and provided nice outdoor living space great for parties. That ceiling was really nice, I had a couple ceiling fans put in. So, when we sold the house had some major upgrades we only enjoyed a few years, whatever.
