Having misfired on Winder, I drove south to Monroe, about which I had "heard" was pretty nice, and it is that, tree lined streets, some stuff of interest, much larger than Winder. We strolled along Main Street looking for lunch, passing a Thai place, I wanted something more local, and found a place called When Pigs Fly Texas BBQ, so we tried it, very good, huge portions, we had leftovers for dinner. Fried okra was excellent.
Home | When Pigs Fly BBQMy wife noticed a table set aside for servicemen (and women) and I asked about it after we ate. The server told us a man I had seen briefly earlier was the owner, and he'd be back out soon. Said his name, same last surname as me! So, I met him, he said he's from Blairsville which is where my Dad was born and raised (in the mountains of very northern GA). We chatted a bit, he said he was in Desert Storm. Had another wall with photos of servicemen and women, asked me to bring photos if we return, which we will.
We then went to a consignment shop next door which was kinda interesting, my wife bought two painting of Paris.
Sometimes you don't need to go far to find adventure and cool stuff.
