If everything fails, we'd be down to needing guns and ammo, water systems, penicillin, etc.  I figure more likely is something akin to runaway inflation, I'm not predicting it any time soon, but a situation where civil order doesn't collapse but is strained badly, folks end up with retirement monies worth little unable to buy enough to keep going.

MAYBE then silver coins might be of use.  Maybe not.

IMHO if everything fails to where gold becomes money again, then we all have MUCH bigger problems than whether we have a supply of gold.

Hence, I don't own any gold.

Yeah, I spent a bit of effort pondering what I'd do if "society" goes under, anarchy, etc.  I figure very little useful.  The med kit would be of use for a time.  I don't want to live in the mountains in some compound, and realistically, one would need a group of likeminded to survive long.

I also have thought for decades that inflation was about to go ballistic, hyper etc.  I've lived through some pretty bad inflation, but it was mostly tamed.  I find our "financial system" to be remarkable, not all in a good way.  Anyway, I think owning a small bit of PMs is an OK thing.

Not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but it sounds like it would only apply to traditional IRA's, not Roths.  Roth withdrawals should already never touch your taxable income.
