I haven't spent much time in Atlanta but I'd guess I'd prefer Sad Diego weather overall

I'd say SD has better weather than Atlanta overall, without much fear of contradiction.  I'm OK with the weather here obviously, my wife claims to love it.  A nice thing about here is we often have very blue skies despite having more inches of rain than Seattle.  Obviously summers can be oppressive.  Winters can be pretty cold, 20s are fairly common at night, but not like Cincy.  Spring is often rainy, and autumn is for football.

There is a reason a house in SD costs probably double+ what one would cost here.

Never been to San Diego. Only been to the SF Bay Area when I worked at AMAT circa 2001. Lived in Santa Clara for about a month. It was ok. Weather was kind of crappy, got there in late Feb and left in mid March.

For some reason every time San Diego is mentioned I think about the old 70’s TV show “Three’s Company “ with Suzanne Somers and John Ritter and Joyce Dewitt. Used to watch it all the time as a small child. 

The theme music still gets stuck in my head. “ come and knock on my door “.

Sorry that Santa Clara was your entree into the Bay Area. Not the best place to show off our charms. Cool and drizzly, I imagine, that time of year.
SFIrish was selling wafers to AM (and LAM and others) back in those days. Pretty sure she also spent some work time at Cyberdyne Systems (i.e., Mattson).

Yeah, the Bay Area is far enough north that it doesn't get a harsh winter, but it's not great. 

During my winter there, I recall mornings when I had to get into work really early when I was hauling ass on the motorcycle in the dark in 29*F weather trying to get there before I froze. And it wasn't "super cold", but the highs might have been in the 50s or at best low 60s. 

Better than where I grew up in the Midwest, of course, but probably not ideal for someone coming from TX or in the South in general.

Oh, that's true, particularly down in the Silicon Valley. Up in San Francisco, it's probably about 5-10 degrees warmer, because of how the mouth of the Bay impacts things. The summer is the opposite: 5-10 degrees warmer in the SV than up in the City.

And yeah, it can feel kinda cold. Just not real cold. And it probably gets below freezing a couple of days per year. Where I live, maybe one.

I once had the nozzle of my water bottle freeze on my bicycle commute down to Palo Alto. That was a cold morning (but I was dressed for it).

It was great. I was 25 years old and having the time of my life. Met a lot of cool people from all walks of life. I wish we would’ve had some sort of social media, I would have loved to keep in touch with some of those guys. I wouldnt know how to look them up now if I tried.
