not really grumpy but it doesn't belong in the sporty car thread

the 2017 Impala work car with 180,000 miles went into the shop this morning, needs a rear wheel bearing and oxygen sensor - $800.  Not grumpy because it's really the first major issue and $800 isn't terrible

the shop didn't have the parts on hand so I have a loaner for overnight and until tomorrow afternoon
2026 Equinox AWD - 1.5 litre turbo - not impressive IMO - high center of gravity - smaller cargo space than the trunk of the Impala (my golf clubs are in there), engine is not impressive, but worst of all is the vibration in the driver's seat when I change lanes and the adaptive cruise control and other fancy safety features

as a plus - the stereo sound is pretty good

You can turn off most of that automatic driver assist stuff on most vehicles.

There is a reason we no longer have an Equinox.

My oldest texted that the ax finally fell from her idiotic corporate outfit.  She had survived multiple downsizings while the company is trying to stay afloat.  She has been wanting to quit anyway, and certainly would have if her husband ends up taking the 3 year contract to move here when he's done with residency--since part of the deal was to start paying him some sort of stipend 2 years in advance of starting.

Said she was in a meeting, the HR read something off a script, advised she was affected, and kicked her out of the meeting and closed all access, including her email, instantaneously.  F'ing cold blooded, man.

Looking at the bright side, she gets 10 weeks severance for not working, whereas if she quit she would work to the end of the 2-week notice.

I don't think I would have been equipped for the corporate world.  Although it is Friday, and the phone will probably be ringing with "emergencies" that "have" to be dealt with prior to the weekend child exchanges.  Maybe ruthless corporate would be tolerable...

I had a Chevy Trax as a rental in Arizona, I thought it was "OK", which is not bad for a rental car.  I think they cost mid 20s.  I didn't look at an Equibox when we bought the Tucson.  I was looking for something with a 0-60 time around 7 seconds.

that's how my meeting went with the last company and HR.  Had to hold my cell phone up to the camera and show them I deleted my email account

At the airport catching the last flight of the night to San Jose. Have two days of "leadership training" to look forward to. And then catch the last flight back, on a Friday, heading into a holiday weekend, to get home at 10 pm.

Someone wasn't thinking when they put this schedule together...

You know as well as I do that in corporate life that'd be a black mark in its own way.
