It's true that was their biggest hit, but they actually charted with 3 other songs after that.  My favorite of all of them is actually this one:

I had no idea they had anything else noteworthy.

I added it because I saw something years ago on VH1 about "one hit wonders", and that list had them at the top.

Yeah I looked up a list from VH1 online of their top "one hit wonders" of the 80s, and they included songs like "Take On Me" by A-ha, and "Your Love" by the Outfield.  But, although those were the biggest hits from each band, they also each had several others hits on the charts.

FYI I would think of the "one hit wonder" category as being fairly lenient. If there was a random song that you barely remember from a band but it at least charted for a week or two, that doesn't IMHO exclude a band from being a one hit wonder.

For example A-ha might have had other songs that charted, but I just googled them and from a list of songs, I can't remember a single one of them based on the song title. Maybe that's just based on the fact that when "Take On Me" came out, I was about 7 years old. But looking at their Wiki page, only one other song (from the same album) ever reached top 40 in the US, and then nothing from their subsequent studio albums charted.

So I'd call A-ha a one hit wonder.

The Sun Always Shines On TV was a big hit , all over the radio and especially MTV (and IMO a better song).  Call them a two hit wonder if you like but that's what they are.

"Take on Me" is the best music video ever done.

Prove me wrong.

Fair enough. You're a couple years older than me so you probably remember 1985 a little more clearly than I do. I just watched the video and have absolutely no memory of that song whatsoever.

My point was that I don't want this thread to become some sort of "gotcha!" game where someone posts a song that they clearly remember as a one hit wonder and everyone jumps on them saying "but they had this other song that reached #38 on the charts too!"

I think we all know which artists are completely obviously not one hit wonders. But there are a few that are in sort of a gray area, and I'd say we should offer leniency for those.

Sure 'nuff, it's your thread. :)

I was in junior high in 1985, so right in the thick of discovering my own music and asserting my own musical independence.  Songs during that year and over the next couple, are probably the most influential of my entire life.
