scifi: the expanse is one of the best. final season coming up, hopefully they have a good plan to close it out.

Have you read the books? Really solid. 

Interesting that the final season is already coming up. The final book isn't due to be released until ~November this year. 

I hope that unlike Game of Thrones, they actually worked with the authors to make the series and the books have the same ending. 

I'm definitely interested in watching this one, but not until after I read the final book.

I don't think they are going that far? I think the last season will track with Book 6 (which I haven't read so don't go trying to spoil it).

I don't want to research it too heavily (since when I do watch the series I don't want spoilers), but looking back at the plot summaries of the books, I can see it. 

The end of book 6 is the end of a particular story arc, and I could see it being a place to end the TV series as well. 

Book 7 introduces a new story arc that is a slight offshoot from a few things that WEREN'T cleared up at the end of book 6, that portends to change everything. So I'm waiting with bated breath for book 9 to come out so I can read how it turns out!

i have not read the books, though they're on my list next, i think. soon anyway.

as i understand it, there's a time jump in the books sometimes soon after the events of the show's upcoming season, so the show will just wrap up before that time jump. obviously just speculation, but that seems a decent judgement.

Ahhh good point. I had forgotten about that. There are no spoilers inherent to confirm that.

That would make it difficult for the cast to have continuity without a bunch of "look old makeup" lol...

The Expanse is high on my list.  Plan to read all the books first.....as I am a major science fiction donk.  But I decided since Dune is coming out.....and since it's been about five years.....that I should re-read the original six.  Burned through about a fourth of the first last night.  Frank Herbert just has an incredibly palatable writing style.  Truly a masterpiece of fiction.

Speaking of sci-fi being turned into shows, Foundation is coming out on Apple TV+.

I suppose I'll have to go back and read that 7-book trilogy again. Haven't read it since I was probably a pre-teen.

I'd want to get them on Kindle but also want my son to read them (he has his own Kindle account so we don't share it as a household account), so need to figure out if I can find them in paperback instead for a reasonable price rather than having to buy it twice electronically...

Do you have 1/2 price books there, or something similar?  They usually have a lot of Asimov.

I'm very much looking forward to this, I guess I'm going to have to subscribe to Apple TV for a while to binge it.

Also, have they stated it'll cover all 7?  I was assuming it would only cover the first three.  I've got all of them in paperback in my personal library (as well as pretty much every other Asimov, Heinlein, Clark, Herbert, Bradbury, Anthony, book ever written.  And that doesn't even really cover the Fantasy section... )

I don't know if it'll cover all 7. It's only about to be the first season so far. But if I'm going to reread it, it's gonna be the whole thing... And I'm not going to buy half a series for my son either lol...

Apple TV+ has been pretty cool. Ted Lasso, as previously stated, is hilarious. The Morning Show is pretty good. They've got some other things that look intriguing that I haven't given a shot yet. 

BTW I say I want to read the Foundation series in advance of watching the show, but my typical MO with most movies or TV shows based on books is to intend to read them BEFORE watching the series/movie, but then I read them and never actually watch it.

I'm sure Apple TV is okay.  I've already got too many streaming services, I don't have much interest in adding another one. 

But I'm definitely interested in Foundation, so I'll certainly grab it for whatever period of time I need to, to watch it.
