Agree that was a weird one.   It's tough to get more iconically 80s than Purple Rain.

Naked Gun was a fun movie and for those that like it but haven't watched the TV show it came from, Police Squad, well, you should check it out.

Rewatched Heathers this weekend with SFGopher. Wow--so 80s. Christian Slater and Winona Ryder, with bonus star Shannon Doherty. Big hair, pop music for the moment, a little churching for everyone (and it actually does mention AIDS)... For those who haven't seen it, or don't remember it, think Mean Girls meets the Talented Mr. Ripley, but with more gay slurs. "I love my gay son." What a moment. It's not a great high school movie, but it has some great moment. And for those of us who grew up during that time, it has lots of moments that will bring back memories.

We also watched A Fish Called Wanda, another great 80s movie, but not especially time-limited to the 80s. So good.

Not only have I never seen "Heathers", I don't even remember it.  I included it in my list after researching, and several people on here suggested it as well.

The only reason I voted for Naked Gun is because I've never seen Purple Rain, and it doesn't meet any of my soft criteria to be one of the best '80's movies.  

Not memorable, not quotable, no staying power, doesn't seem to influence pop culture.  It may just be a cultural thing, maybe a lot of folks are out there quoting it.  

Naked Gun, on the other hand.  Nice Beaver !  Very memorable, very quotable, and a lot of '80's culture, even if not the absolute pinnacle.

I actually did a lot of research and put a lot of thought into the field. It sorta leans heavily into my version of the 80’s but I put in quite a few movies I didn’t care for or didn’t see.
