saw this on another board last nite

Any win that can simultaneously kick James Franklin and Brian Kelly in the nuts I'm in for. Go Irish.
This is my favorite post.

That outcome and Marcus Freeman finding success make me happy.

Yeah, I hate Notre Dame, but Freeman seems extremely likable

Agree, I like Freeman a lot.  Seems like a good guy, and clearly he's a pretty good coach.

He's certainly toned it down after dropping multiple F bombs on the sideline reporter after one of their early games this year.  Was barely even celebratory in the post-game interview last night.

He probably got a call from the Pope and was told to cut it out.

Ha!  Maybe so.  Admittedly I haven't watched much ND football, really the only times I've seen him for any length of time was against the Ags in week1, last night, and a couple of times in between.

Exactly my take. I still strongly dislike Notre Dame, but he's really a solid dude. One of my really good friends of 40 years now is best friends with his wife and the guy is just all around a great guy, great husband and father. He's everything you want impacting and teaching young men. Coach of Notre Dame and a former Buckeye is a perfect recipe why I should dislike him, but we need more people like him.

I was absolutely shocked they got aggressive with under a minute to go.  Allar had been awful
That struck me as pretty standard practice. If the office gets moving a little, you try to get 30 to 40 yards and see what happens.

Even if you go to overtime, you’re going to be in
a do or die situation with that exact same quarterback, so that’s not that much of an improvement

He completed exactly zero passes to WRs, and threw two awful passes that got picked off.  They were negated by correct but irrelevant PI calls.  Then with 45 seconds you decide to push the ball down the field?  Not all offenses are the same.  If you have Cam Ward, sure.  If you run a triple option, no.  Penn State does not have an offense that does well on deep shots, and they were HORRIBLE on it last night.  I'm fine with that same quarterback in an untimed situation to go 25 yards.  Not to go 60+ yards in 45 seconds.  It's not the same thing, even if it's the same quarterback

Rumors in Austin are, it's all Oregon.  They have a guy but maybe they don't like that guy, who knows?  And it's going to take a pretty good chunk of change to make him do college one more year instead of the NFL, even if his NFL draft status isn't all that great.

This is the part of NIL/portal/free agency/college pay-for-play that really is just so different and unnerving, to me.  In a world with no NIL and no unlimited free agency, Ewers would most likely be sticking around for another year at Texas if a check on his NFL draft status came back as less than desirable.  Even with Arch Manning waiting in the wings, he'd probably still be the most likely starter, and Arch would either have to sit another year, or transfer, but there wouldn't be a pile of money waiting for him at a new school, so the only reason to transfer would be for playing time.

As it is, you have a young promising QB potentially pushing out a proven starter (even if he's not as great as we'd hoped), because I guess we don't want to lose the young guy.  There are worse problems to have, of course, it's just really weird.  Ideally Ewers would have just aced this season, had mega-high draft potential, and moved on, as part of the natural course of things.  This is so weird, and I don't like it.  But it is what it is.

I made Scott Tolzien jokes about a few QBs the past few years, but I can’t trust the five-star to do what I’d trust Tolzien to do, I suppose that says something about how things would end for PSU.

(I do think there should've been more “just get a ball to a playmaker in space” emphasis, but that was what it was)
