Old Recruiting What-Ifs
« on: July 15, 2022, 12:07:32 AM »
I clicked a link to an old "top 100 recruits" list and at the time it was posted, some of the players hadn't decided on a school yet.
So I thought I'd share the names I was familiar with and imagine if they had signed with the "other" school(s).
1987 Top 100
#1 was RB Randy Simmons (A&M)...don't remember him
David Rocker, DT - Auburn, ND
Dean Dingman OL - committed to MSU, but went to UM
Greg Skrepenak OL - Penn St, UM, ND, Temple, BC
Tripp Welborne WR - UCLA, UM, FSU
Alfred Williams DE - OU, OKST, UGA, CU, ILL
Tony Brooks RB - OU, OKST, ND
Patrick Rowe WR - SDST, USC, UCLA, ILL, ASU
Todd Lyght DB - UM, MSU, ND, ASU
Junior Seau LB - CU, ASU, UCLA, BYU, USC
Emmitt Smith RB - Florida, Auburn
Matt Blundin QB - Pitt, PSU, ND....but went to UVA
.
The school they went to is in bold.

Auburn could have had Bo, 1 monster year from Brent Fullwood, and then Emmitt from '83-'89.  The Plainsmen went 5-0-1 in SEC play in 1987 with a starting RB that averaged 3.1 yards per carry.
Scary 'what if'

apparently, Emmitt took a good look at Nebraska

he could have played on the Frosh team in 83 and then taken over for Rozier in 84

Jeff Smith wasn't a superstar in 84, neither was Doug Dubose in 84 or 85

I don't like this thread.  Too many Ohio players that went to Michigan before the turn of the century.

I can't find anything about Dingman, other than he committed to UM on Signing Day.  1980s flip?

If my name was Dingman, I'd hide too
