Yes.  In the 80s in college, it was a casual and present party treat. It was everywhere and was even more prevalent than marijuana.  People would do it right out in the open, just like they smoke weed
never bought any, too expensive and I was broke.  Roommate was dealing and was the life of the party.  Got busted and kicked off the wrestling team.

My close friend who is in education had a wild teens/college time, including drugs.  She was fine, but had friends who died from it, so it was a thing.

So I know that about her past, no big deal.

On our Sedona trip awhile back, I come to learn she has cocaine on hand and uses it when she needs an energy boost to be productive!  I was amazed by that.

Made me want to try it when I moved this past time, to make the loading and off-loading go by easier.
As it was, I picked up a dude named Juan outside Home Depot and he was a beast!

I've never seen cocaine that I knew about.  I've passed some drug use on the streets, in Vancouver is pretty prevalent if you walk about.  We smell weed here pretty often walking about and of course I see some homeless who are out of it, probably alcohol mostly.

The homeless here rarely beg or say anything to a passerby.  I've fixed a few of them a sandwich and taken it back to where they were with a Coke thrown in, and then they ask for money, figuring I'm a softie.  There are a surprising percentage of homeless women here, like maybe 1 in 6.  Unhoused, whatever the correct term is.  I'm told the women are more apt to staying in a shelter, where I'm told usually there are plenty of beds.  A lot of the women are "short term" homeless.

The fentanyl thing is pretty scary to me, though that was part of the "cocktail" they gave me during the eye surgery gig.  It wasn't enough to make me feel anything really.

I dislike taking "medication".   I'm very fortunate not to need anything, I suspect I could stop with the statin, but I want to get blood work done first.

Buyer Beware: The Alcohol Level on Your Wine’s Label Might Be Lying to You

Federal law allows for a margin of error on wine alcohol labeling, but are producers taking liberties that mislead drinkers?

She doesn't have it on her at all times, lol.  Just at home.

But that did happen to me once.  I drove down from Tampa (USF) to the Keys my first year of college with a pretty lady friend and along Lake Okeechobee, I got pulled over.  She had a bunch of weed in her purse (in 2000).  Thankfully, she was asleep and not aware of the stop.  I get my ticket (which I lost and forgot all about until years later).  As the cop leaves, she tells me about the weed.
I'm really glad I didn't know and wasn't nervous as a result.

I mentioned that because something liked that could have happened to me. Long story short back in the '90s one buddy owed me  $300+  for quite some time and was paying me back seemingly with what he found on side walks and between seat cushions. While golfing all summer and playing in top softball leagues.Living his life of Riley After over a year I twisted his wrists and he started paying up then showed me his appreceation by taking me to his friends Pizza Joint which honestly was pretty good Pie.

So after a pitcher of cold suds we left and I dropped him off and went home. Next Morning he calls me up and ask if he left his business cards in the folding holder in my car. Seemed odd that this was so urgent so I went out, found it and looked - on one side of behind plastic was a safety razor/little mirror on the other his stash of Peruvian Marching Dust. I told him come get it and let him know he was damn lucky I hadn't gotten pulled over. It would have been tough convincing a judge/jury that it wasn't mine. Like FF said "oops, it wasn't mine!" and it really wasn't. Only defense would have been my prints weren't on it. I would have sung like a canary

At least it was just $300.  I had a guy back in 2006 owe me $2k, he paid $800 back but kept coming up with reason after reason why it would be the next check before he could pay me back.  I kept thinking, holy cow, this guy is having the worst run of luck I've ever seen.  Then I found out from his sister and a previous co-worker that he had a drug problem and was buying drugs instead of paying me back, and the drugs were probably what got him in the hole in the first place.  It's also why this belongs on the cocaine thread.

Haven't seen him in years and probably never will again, but that MFer still owes me $1200 far as I'm concerned.  I wonder what the interest on that is.

Now I wanna go complain in the grumpy old man thread about people who stunningly think it's okay to lie and basically steal from people like that, and about me for being so dumb when I was younger that I gave him 2k in the first place.

I've never loaned a friend money.  I just won't do it.

My brother still owes me over $1,000 from when he wrecked and totaled my brand new Chevy Blazer in 1995.  Insurance replaced it but I had to pay the deductible and there were other associated costs with completely replacing a car.

He didn't have the money then, nowhere close to it.  And now, it's been so long, well, I guess it's forgiven.  But clearly not forgotten...

I hired a guy way back who was in a pinch, so I loaned him $200, and said he could pay me back when he got his first paycheck.  I think he just forgot, and I never mentioned it, he was a hard worker, so I probably made more than that and then some because of his work.  He was an archeology major at Ohio U.

One thing I didn't like as much is he and another technician reporting to me used to stay out late drinking and came into work later and later, and I'd mention it.  Then we got this crazy as heck boss from Italy, a lady, who would show up at 10 AM maybe, and leave at 3, unless it was snowy, then she'd not show up at all (which was a blessing).  So, I let these two showing up 30 minutes late slide after that.  I think she was the worst boss I ever had, and that's saying something.

There are people I think I would and I'd trust they would pay me back in whatever time frame they promised.  But I can't imagine any of those people needing me to loan them money, nor do I think they would ever ask me for it, so I'll never be confronted with the prospect and thus won't know for sure how I'd react.

What gets me about that story is my part, not so much his.  Even back then, I should've known better....he wasn't in that category I just described.  It wasn't reckless....I think he merited a reasonable expectation of being good for it, but he was not someone I knew for years and years and who I knew for sure his entire situation and his inmost character.  I just......was trying to help, and I was apparently still too young and dumb.  Even though I wasn't that young.  I was in my 20's and out of college already.  Just stupid.  I don't really care about the money all these years later.....it's more the disregard and disrespect of treating someone like that, and most of all, I get angry with myself for ever having been that naive.

I've lived by my rule that I never borrow anyone more money than I'm willing to write off for a friendship.
obviously, more for some than others.
the other part of the rule is:::: I won't borrow a person more money until they've paid back the current loan.
yes there are a few folks from my lengthy past that still owe me some $$$, but not enuff for me to worry about for feel bad enuff about that we aren't still friends.
