“The recommendation was made by the NCAA Standardized Test Score Task Force, which was formed as part of the NCAA's eight-point plan to advance racial equity. “

They are being admitted to play a sport. They need aptitude in that, not geometry.

So, it seems like part of a broader push to reduce or eliminate reliance on those tests. I don’t totally agree with some of the reasons for it, but I also don’t have a particular affinity for the role they play in our system of gatekeeping for education.

I admit, this is probably linked to being somewhat naturally good at standardized tests and seeing some of the weird quirks that result from that.

(I also think they can create some bad incentives when it comes to the recruiting process, but that’s it’s own thing for mid-tier talent)

This isn't exactly on-topic, but one could make the case that America's tumble down the education rankings over the last few decades can be attributed to the (lazy) reliance on standardized testing.
The multiple choice format exists for its ease and speediness of grading, not to actually measure mastery of a subject.
When a chimpanzee can score a 25% on your test on any in-depth subject, it's not a good test.
But we've heavily relied on it for decades.

Well you usually can't get into college with a 25% score, so there's that.

Although I think there might be a few chimps that were brighter than a few of my fraternity brothers :57:

A chimp might be able to get 25% of the answers correct, but it would have quite a bit of trouble filling in the bubbles with a number 2 pencil, without breaching the boundaries.

basically this. NCAA min test scores were always stupid.

Schools should be able to admit whomever they want on a case by case basis.
