Minnestota (1-5, 4-5) at Michigan (4-2, 7-2) Post Game
« on: October 30, 2017, 08:21:15 AM »
Michigan hosts the Golden Gophers in another night game Saturday, 7:30 PM FOX.  The game is remarkable in that Michigan will be giving red-shirt freshman Brandon Peters the first start of his career.    Winner gets Yost's brown jug.

Two things.

Why is this a night game. And this is Peters' first true test. I want to see how he responds to a tiny bit of success and how he plays now that he knows he's "the guy" and all the pressure and expectation are on him. I thought he did pretty well against Rutgers. Wasn't amazing, wasn't bad. What he was was competent- light years ahead of O'Korn who was just stinking up the joint. Pretty good in his first real playing time. He shows up big against Minnesota- well Michgan might have a real QB for the first time since Rudock.

Best QB since Rudock?

That's both impressive and sad at the same time.

Rudock was decent at Iowa but hardly set the world on fire there.  He did a little better at Michigan but again, Harbaugh didn't exactly work miracles with him.

Peters is competent. He isnt the savior, not this year at least. But in his drops, and looking off receivers, and pocket presence, he looks like a legitimate B1G qb. Both Speight and O'Korn never had that feel.

This game will actually be a real test for him. The gopher defense is legit. The gopher QB play is much worse than Michigan's situation right now. That spells disaster at night against Don Brown's defense.

Rudock was efficient and by the end of the year he was a smooth operator in that offense. Rudock got drafted in the 6th round and he's hung around in the NFL as the back up for the Detroit Lions. I'd say that's a minor miracle of a turnaround. After getting the boot from Feretnz and then struggling his first few weeks at Michgan, who in the hell would've thought the kid would be drafted by the NFL? Not me.

And it is sad. Before that 1 year of Rudock Michigan hasn't had a real life QB since Henne in 2007. Basically 9 out of the last 10 years they haven't had a legitimate QB. Here's to hoping Peters can buck that trend.

Hell I remember when Michigan fans were complaining about Navarre back in like 2003 - I think at this point, most of them would take him back in a heartbeat.

I will be there as well and looking forward to it after Peters looked good last weekend. Michigan matches up well against the Gophers. Minnesota's offense doesn't concern me very much. Their defense is okay but nothing special, too.

I think the offense gets to 40+ points if they want to, but they could also shut down the playbook in the second half if they get a big early lead. I just want to see the running game continue to be effective, Peters to be efficient, and no turnovers. There is a chance of bad weather, too, though....

Michigan -15?  Not sure what to think of that.   Brandon Peters gets his first start in a prime time night game.  Minnesota is a step up from Rutgers.  And it'll likely be raining again.

Random thought, not to be morbid, but Michigan only has 2 healthy, non-redshirting QBs this year, and they already pulled the plug on one.

Similar when Hoke did that to Gardner in 2014, and then Morris didn't work out either.

If Peters struggles or gets hurt, where is O'Korn's head at?  Would you go back to him, or are you forced to pull McCaffrey's shirt?

If Peters starts O'Korn is the back-up per Harbaugh so I would guess O'Korn will go in if Peters struggles in the game.  Wilton Speight may dress for next weeks game, @Maryland, and get a few snaps.  All three may be available for the Wisconsin game.  IMO there is now way they burn McCaffrey's red shirt. There are other QBs on the team such as Malzone that would play before McCaffrey in an emergency.
