this stat is literally insane...

You wonder how Iowa is winning without offense? This may be one reason.

Iowa has placed 4 players on the mid-season All-American team.  3 are on defense and the other one of course is the punter.

2 are on the first team.  CB Cooper DeJean and Punter Tory Taylor.

He really is.  In the win against Wisconsin,  Tory Taylor had 10 punts.  Tory averaged 50.6 yards per punt, with two punts of 60+ yards. Six of his punts were downed inside the 20 and he had no touch backs.

Those are what King Barry used to call "hidden yards" and it's how Wisconsin won under him. He probably learned that from Hayden. Need to get back to that, at least a little. Iowa is great at flipping the field.

That's a lesson that PJ clearly has not learned, and I have a sinking feeling that will burn the Gophers at least once on Saturday.

I expect this game to be close going into the 4Q.  In it's last 3 games, Iowa's defense took over in the 4Q.  Can they do it again?

Odds are Iowa will prevail,  but you never know when games are close.  All Minn needs is a couple breaks go their way and that's enough to beat Iowa.

While Iowa may survive this mayhem today, or maybe not, Iowa will sustain, at least one more loss.

West got a lot more interesting with Iowa loss. Nebraska wins out they could actually win the West.

It's amazing how close Iowa came to pulling it out again with absolutely no offense at all.

It looked like Iowa punt returner Cooper DeJean had another game changing punt return for a TD late in the 4Q,  but after replay reviewed it,  they ruled DeJean made an invalid fair catch signal.  DeJean had made a waiving motion clearly below his head,  for his team mates to get away from the bouncing ball.  DeJean then picked up the ball on the bounce, avoided a few tackles and returned the ball for a TD.

Replay originally was only checking to see if he went of bounds,  which he clearly did not do. Then on the replay, the officials noticed DeJean was clearly waving at his teammates to stay away from the ball, again with his hand below his head the whole time.  That is considered an invalid fair catch and the ball is considered dead as soon as the receiving team recovers the ball.

I was ready to nominate DeJean for the Heisman after that play,  but every officiating expert insists the invalid fair catch was the right call.  Oh well.

In the end,  the officials did not cost Iowa the game.  Iowa's offense did. In fact Iowa's only TD drive in the game was gift wrapped by Minnesota penalties.

Iowa QB Deacon Hill turned the ball over 3 times.  His 2nd fumble was the difference in the game.  Iowa's offense had a net 2 yards of offense and no points in the 2nd half.  The offense is just awful

Congrats to Minnesota.  PJ Fleck is such a clown but I kind of like him.

8 games into the season Iowa is averaging 19.5 PPG.

5.5 points per game short of Brian's contract clause which states they need to average 25 PPG.

Unless that defense and special teams goes on an absolute scoring tear the last 4 weeks of the season, homie ain't gonna make it.
