It's amazing how close Iowa came to pulling it out again with absolutely no offense at all.
It looked like Iowa punt returner Cooper DeJean had another game changing punt return for a TD late in the 4Q, but after replay reviewed it, they ruled DeJean made an invalid fair catch signal. DeJean had made a waiving motion clearly below his head, for his team mates to get away from the bouncing ball. DeJean then picked up the ball on the bounce, avoided a few tackles and returned the ball for a TD.
Replay originally was only checking to see if he went of bounds, which he clearly did not do. Then on the replay, the officials noticed DeJean was clearly waving at his teammates to stay away from the ball, again with his hand below his head the whole time. That is considered an invalid fair catch and the ball is considered dead as soon as the receiving team recovers the ball.
I was ready to nominate DeJean for the Heisman after that play, but every officiating expert insists the invalid fair catch was the right call. Oh well.
